Essay about life changing experience There are times when life feels calm and peaceful and then some event appears and changes your lifestyle and vision of the world for the rest of your existence. This happened to me when I was younger. My father suddenly came to me and began showing me some pictures of beautiful landscapes with olive fields, mountains and turquoise blue sea, white statues and ruins of white marble monuments. He asked me if I liked those pictures, and as I said yes he told me we were moving there. Greece a country I had never heard of. I was really enthusiastic but I didn’t know what was to come and that this would be the type of event that would change my vision of the world. A language is a way for humans to communicate, to link. It is extremely important for the reason that a language facilitates urban life and it is part of a country’s culture. For me this was a harsh experience because I did not speak a word of Greek, it was a real handicap not being able to communicate. Trying to make friends and playing with children of my age was impossible because I didn’t get a word from what they said. I was exceedingly frustrated and did not want to socialize anymore. Another issue is that for the first time I somehow felt judged. I was judged for being a stranger. During the first months I underwent a bad experience by not being able to make friends. This is why I told myself it’s a must to learn Greek. It was arduous because Greek is a tough language; the alphabet is intricate and the grammar too because of the numerous declinations. Everything from labels to street signs were written in Greek. Being entirely submerged in a language has some inconvenient; I felt lost everywhere I went especially while taking public transportation.
