Public Libraries In Need Of Internet Filtering When children are growing up, they tend to believe that the world is one perfect place with no problems. In the 21st century, children are learning how to use the internet at a very early age due to the post-industrial era where everything is becoming technological. Over the past few years, the internet has become one of the most popular types of new media and is expanding each and every day. It is basically possible to find anything on the Internet that one is searching for. With the broad access of information and visuals, the internet seems to have a dangerous side to minors who are so innocent. Since children are curious and very naïve, it is easy for them to believe anything that they find or see on the internet. Considering this, bring us to the question whether the internet should have some type of filtering or none at all. However, because the case is more about protecting the minors and not others from what is considered to be harmful content, the internet should be reconsidered to have filtering at only specific places. These places should be public libraries or schools libraries where children are mostly found. So instead of having the whole internet censored by governments, institutions such as libraries and schools is where some type of censorship for the internet is needed. In contrast, having the whole internet censored would be violating free speech and going against human rights. On the other hand, blocking inappropriate content on computers at all libraries provides a more secure option for the protection of minors. Therefore, all public libraries should have some type of filtering on their internet in order to keep a safe environment and prevent the viewing of harmful content for minors. New York Public Library’s policy is a perfect example of this concept rather than allowing patrons to surf the web
