1- Identify the different reasons people communicate: People communicate for various reasons in a work setting. Communication is a way of making and developing relationships, expressing ideas, letting people know how you are feeling or giving support and encouragement. To build relationships: This is a very important reason for communication because building relationships is imperative with parents and children when they first meet. Communication and how you present it is the first step in gaining trust and confidence in a person. For maintaining relationships: Good communication is vital for maintaining relationships. A smile, nod, or acknowledgement is a way of communication and lets the other person know you are aware of them. One needs to be able to provide a solid account of a child’s day to parents, so that a parent can feel fully up to date about their child, and confident that their child is being cared for. Good communication is also very important in maintaining relationships with colleagues because it helps to support each other in our working lives. Maintaining relationships can be sought through giving advice, through moral support, or just by a nod, or touch. Another way of maintaining relationships could be by not talking, but showing that you’re listening, and being attentive. To gather reassurance acknowledgement: Some of the communication between humans is about gaining and providing reassurance or acknowledgement. With children and young people, we may praise them, give them physical reassurance or acknowledge them by providing eye contact an interest in what they are doing. In effective work settings, colleagues also reassure and acknowledge each other. To gather and share thoughts and ideas: People need to communicate in all aspects of child and adulthood, so they are able to come together and
