Legalizing Illegal Immigration, the End to Our Country Alejandra Cortez DeVry University Legalizing Illegal Immigration, the End to Our Country Illegal immigration has been a controversial issue for the United States. Many people argue and disagree that legalizing illegal immigration would not benefit the country, or themselves because of the current crisis the U.S. is experiencing today. We experience different acts of crime, many companies going into bankruptcy, and not being able to find a part time job. If there weren’t illegal immigrants in this country, we would be living in a different situation, and not living in a world of crisis. These “illegal immigrants” come to this country looking for a better life, not knowing that they affect the citizens. I believe that legalizing illegal immigration is a drawback to the U.S. because it affects the U.S. economy, increases crime, and fewer job opportunities for the American citizens, although the illegal immigrants benefit from this. Firstly, with illegal immigration being legalized in our country, our economy will suffer the consequences. For instance, “according to a review of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and Census Bureau date, legal and illegal immigrants gained over a million additional jobs between 2008 and 2010 even as millions of American citizens were losing their jobs during that same period” (Michael). These illegal immigrants bring their children to this country so they can have a better education, but our “America’s schools lose funds teaching kids of illegal immigrants” (Masters). As of personal experience, high schools are limited in resources, like having a limit on copies per student. Also, teachers are losing their jobs and classrooms are over 40 students at times.
