In addition to the straightforward teaching duties, language instructors working in private language schools will have to take attendance and provide evaluations of student progress. Language teachers may have other managerial tasks as demanded or necessary by school administrators. Duties will differ depending on the specific private school's expectations. Private corporations sometimes offer language classes for their non-English speaking staff. The central determination of such classes is typically to organize workers to better achieve their job duties ("Rewards Of Being A Teacher", 2014).
An advantage of a comprehensive school is that they are often the closest school to where students live and some comprehensives get very good exam results. Another type of school that a child can go to is a private school. A private school is a school supported by a private organisation or private individuals rather than by the state. Attending a private school may improve your results because overall you get a better education and this can help with possible jobs in the future. A disadvantage of going to a private school might be that sometimes students are isolated from other social challenges.
Reshae Head SPE529 Reflective Journal Self-Contained and Inclusive Classrooms Self-contained classrooms in my opinion are great for students who have similar abilities and are trying to achieve a common goal. Self-contained classrooms allow teachers to focus on a minority group of kids that may need help that the majority of the kids may not need. This allows for certain students not to be held back, while others may need to slow down and receive special instructions or accommodations. I also like the fact that in a self contained setting, students are around kids with similar struggles so they tend to feel more comfortable and be more engaging during lessons. The only negative I see in the self-contained setting is the fact that the kids are sometimes cut off from the general education students.
Class attendance facilitates learning in a variety of ways. For example lectures supplement reading assignments and classroom presentations present information differently than the text. Discussion and elaboration of topics provides current information that may not be found in the textbook. Hearing the comments and questions of other students can answer questions many students may have. Instructors can use class discussion to enhance critical thinking skills.
Abstract Children with emotionally disturbances (E.D.) need structure and discipline in the classroom to not only be successful within the school environment, but to be successful outside of it as well. The teacher has to be firm with the students while also maintaining their respect. Because of their emotional imbalance, what happens in the classroom can affect the outcome of what happens at home, peer relationships, and school social activities outside of the classroom. This paper describes a few methods and components that can be used to teach students with E.D.
Nonverbal Communication Some people think that nonverbal communication is not as important when conversing, in fact, nonverbal cues are more important than the verbal part of relationships. Two cultural rules that govern nonverbal communication and are used every day that I have chosen to violate are personal space and keeping eye contact in a conversation. Keeping eye contact during a conversation as stated by our textbook shows respect and interest in what the other person is talking about. Personal space varies from culture to culture. Some cultures prefer being closer than usual when talking and others prefer their own personal space.
Teaching and learning styles must change if education is to propel into the future with quality-educated teachers and students. This concept will impact the administrators by keeping a growing number of new teachers in the teaching field. Students are changing on a daily (sometimes hourly) basis due to technology such as the Internet and interactive games. Mentor and novice teachers create new thinking when they implement learning styles which are fresh and exciting. This is a pivotal way of changing mentor and novice teacher’s practices for the sake of good teaching.
“The institutions traditionally procure, provide and control the technology for learning but now students are acquiring their own personal technologies for learning and institutions are challenged to keep pace” (Research in Technology Learning, 2010). Computers and other technical devices that are being used to enhance student learning helps to make teaching more creative and effective; however, it has also caused a lot of confusion and chaos in regards to ethics. Once teachers only had to be concerned about the basic rules of classroom etiquette and they could govern their classroom visually. Now teachers have to implement rules and guidelines to ensure that technology in the classroom is being used for its intended purpose to protect students from lurking dangers that might not always be detected by human
It is harder to procrastinate while taking classes on-campus because you begin the homework in class (most times) and have the teacher to notice if you did or did not submit your assignments. When taking online or on-campus classes, you are always given a syllabus to outline your coursework for the length of each class. Regardless of how you take your classes, the teachers will want you to demonstrate your knowledge of the classroom subject by completing the given assignments. Either way you take classes, online or on-campus, you can still earn your degree or certificate at the end of your program.
They necessitate dissimilar skills and teaching methods. Another solution is to construct reading activities so that there is a before, during and after stages of reading knowledge. Expository text comprises the greater part of what we read which includes essays, directions, documents, journals, magazine and newspaper articles, and other things. Students need to familiarize themselves with how these texts work and what to do when they start reading these types of texts. Chris Street wrote an original research article, “Expository Text and Middle School Students: Some Lessons Learned”, and tells us that middle school students face difficulty reading expository texts because they were not taught how to read in this fashion while in elementary school.
