The brightness of the painting brings the viewer’s gaze to the pale-skinned woman and her child and really highlights the features in their face, such as their rosy cheeks. It displays a light and feminine look and comes off as somewhat angelic with their fair skin. With the light focused on the face, the viewer notices the ever so slight smile present in the subjects, which brings
The background is a mix of white, brown, grey and blue. Different tones are used for the background and the skin, in order for the background to mix naturally with the women. This creates the impression that the background is as important as the subjects in focus. Picasso’s choices of colour enhance the painting without distracting from the women’s figures, which are indisputably the main focus of the artwork. Each woman’s figure is comprised of sharp angles and curves.
This is the focal point of the artwork, since it is a lighter shade than the rest of the image, and it is the biggest proportion to the piece. The fact that the back is much longer than normal human beings displays disproportion, and was used by Ingres to detail the sensual part of a woman’s body. As you interpret the cloth the female is laying on you notice the silk texture. This texture was used to emphasis the soft and delicate feel of a female’s skin. The long lines of the silk cloth stress curved sensuality and feminism.
This piece of art work is of a woman dressed in black cape and dress. The women's arms are folded in a way that makes her look pregnant. This portrait is composed of light and dark colors. The top proportion of the painting is light but as you go lower the painting gets darker. The emphasis is at the face of the woman.
Degas also used very light pastel colors in the background to make the ballerina stand out more in the painting, as well as making her seem like she is letting off light and making the work seem, in general, much more relaxing and carefree. Another famous Impressionist painting done during the eighteen hundreds was Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s Bal du Moulin da la Galette. In this painting, there is “a richness of form, a fluidity of brush stroke, and a flickering light.” Many bright colors are also used by Renoir, giving off an air of happiness amongst the people dancing, drinking, and
For instance, women had to wear the corset, which confined their bodies under many undergarments. Women that did not wear this type of clothing were deemed as immoral women. On the other hand, during the late Victorian era, men wore coats and trousers, which they still wear today. Therefore, comparing women’s clothes with men‘s clothes from the Victorian era to date, women have achieved great changes on their clothes. Those changes testify their achievement of sexual equality.
This drawing was drawn on light blue paper. Degas used the dry media pastel. The drawing has some visual texture in the form of pattern. The womans dress has vertical stripes on her dress in red and green that catch the eye. This balance creates heavy visual weight for eye to follow up to her face.
The skillful shading and smooth finish of the petals draw attention to the vibrancy of the flowers. The contrast between the dark shades in the middle of the flower shows the depth & detail to the painting. As an artist she liked to balance the picture in all ways, so that if the painting was to be folded in half, both sides would be about the same. The scale of the painting is amazing. She truly believed in painting the flower close up to show the full detail, instead of painting a flower to the true scale whereas you would only see a tiny flower.
Girl Before a Mirror is an amazing painting by Pablo Picasso, of his young mistress Marie Therese Walter. The painting is very involved as it tries to portray a woman facing her image as a pure innocent young lady to a woman that she has become or is becoming. The contrast that Pablo Picasso is trying to depict is not just relevant in the image in the mirror, but also through the color pallet he chose. On the young girls innocent side, the colors seem to be more pure and subtle with one half of her face a pale pink, her hair soft and blonde, and what looks like a white silhouette or halo around her head, and as her image gets closer to her reflection in the mirror, the colors start to become more intense not so simple or innocent. The transformation of the colors from her standing there, to her reflection in the mirror, shows a darker, older, more voluptuous woman.
