Laptops for the pPupils Every pupil should have their own laptop. It would have a positively impact on learning through the accessibility to up to date information and connection to school at any given time. It would also eliminate the problem of school work forgotten at home. If used properly, laptops make information very accessible. The information is also very up to date, as the internet updates continuously. Books may be out of date and therefore the information is not relevant. There is a lot of information on the internet, undoubtedly, and the teacher can take this opportunity not only to find facts, but also to enhance the pupils’ critical skills. Many schools have their weekly plans on the internet and this information should be readily available to pupils as well so they can see what they are working on currently and if there is any homework due in. Having their own lap tops would allow pupils who are unable to come to school to keep connected with their school. Then there is the frustrating problem of pupils forgetting their work at home. Problem solved with the use of handing in work electronically. Even if they should forget their lap top at home, the internet is accessible from any stationary computer in school. And then there is the added bonus of not having to decipher any bad hand writing. Some people may think that it is an expensive cost for the state, but it is actually an investment. We live in the 21st century and it is critical that people know how to use a computer, not just for information, but also for jobs. Providing computers to all pupils also closes the gap between students from low income backgrounds and their wealthier counterparts by providing equal access to information.
