Ronald White Eng.025-81 September 30, 2009 Laptops vs. Desktop Computers Some people choose to buy a laptop computer over a desktop computer. College students prefer laptop computers over desktop computers for their mobility and because students can do their homework anywhere and anytime on or off the campus. Business people prefer laptop computers for the mobility they offer. This is evident when you see people on their vacations, business trips, and even while sitting in restaurants. Laptop computers come, in a variety of colors, screen sizes along with their ability to access the internet away from home. Some people prefer desktop computers because they are very useful when it comes to upgrading internal hardware. Desktops perform, far better than the laptop because they better at handling upgrades. Things like extra memory more drive space or multiple optical drives: these will all perform better and be cheaper on the desktop. Laptop computers come with a dual power source by using AC Power from the wall outlet and from an internal lithium,nickel-cadmium,or nickel-metal hydride rechargeable battery where as a desktop computer only uses AC Power from a wall outlet. Desktop computers can access the internet only from a fixed line connection. The laptop can be taken in the office, in bed on vacations using a internal connection called Wi-Fi connection. When it comes to the price, the Desktop is much cheaper than the laptop because it is stationary and the laptop is more expensive because of the portability they offer. The desktop is much larger in size compared to the Laptop you can fit it into your brief case. Laptops are very delicate when it comes to the cooling fans because of its small size whereas; Desktop Computers come with a larger fan to cool the unit.
