The pageant moms pay hundreds of dollars to have the “best of the best” spray their child down with a can of orange spray paint. As any toddler would, the princesses usually scream and pout and resist all attempts at being hosed down until their mothers promise them a brand new pony after it’s all over. After having their skin damaged beyond repair from the chemicals of a spray tan, they move on to their nails. The whole family joins the beauty queen in receiving her full spa treatment complete with manicure, pedicure and massage. I mean how could we expect a four year old to deal with the stress of a pageant without a full body massage?
Burberry does a great job in using this need for attention in their ad. By not only using Rosie yet again to create a goddess of a woman who stands out but also at the bottom of the ad the words “The new fragrance for women” are written. These word draw in the woman consumer because what she has at home is out of date this new perfume will make her “hip”. In this ad Cover Girl is trying to endorse the product Exact Eyelight Mascara. The ad to me seems to target young and middle age woman of any race or some men that think that they can make their women (spouse) look like the model in the ad. The ad uses white and nude like colors, very large text and a very close up picture of the model to show how the new mascara will bring out a person’s eye. It shows the four different shades that the mascara is available in on the side to try to get the target audience attention.

(Chan & Cheng, 2011) Women are constantly under pressure by their peers, family and society to chase the ideal standards of physical beauty. This has caused the beauty economy in China also known as “mei nü jing ji”, to thrive (Zhang, 2012). Many take radical measures to “fix” physical qualities that are deemed flaws. Some characteristics that are associated with femininity and are extremely sought after China include fair skin, big, bright eyes, and a small and delicate soft nose.
Cinderella ends up getting the prize (marriage to the prince) based on looks alone. Most fairy tales follow this general concept: pretty girls who don’t do much get the prize in the end. Lieberman also argues that for boys, it is the bold and active ones that win whatever prize is available, which follows the ideas of traditional gender roles. Partially in saying that, women mostly feel the need to make themselves look good because they themselves see them only being attracted to the good looking guys and the only way they think of trying to do this, is by using their looks as a part of attracting the opposite gender. Society automatically assumes most girls will all have the same type of attributes. They’re expected to be nice, attractive, mature, emotional, and not too aggressive. Women are automatically judged the second they are seen by the public. If women were to step out of their own determined “role” they’re then automatically considered as outcasts by society.
In A&P, it's obvious Sammy tries to impress the prettiest girl that walked in with her bathing suits along with her friends, whom he named "Queenie". As these girls walk in, the music changes and you see Sammy's attention turn to them and he forgot about the "witch" for a second and rings her "hose" twice. This shows he has an interest in her and will want to impress her and get her attention. He tried impressing her by quitting his job. He tells Lengal, "I said I quit".

A popular example would be the treatment of women in The Big Bang Theory. For a good majority of the show’s first few seasons, there is only one main female character, Penny. She’s presented as the stereotypical beautiful girl who is coveted by the males of the show; however, she also seems to lack equal intelligence and is often made fun of by the show itself over her inability to understand most topics being discussed. She’s basically an example of a pretty girl who’s all looks and no brain without any talents to make it through life, and is extremely objectified because of this. On the contrast, other women on the show such as Amy seem to have an extraordinary amount of intelligence, yet lack the pretty looks to go along with it.
