Lithwick:Teens, Nude Photos and the Law In this article, published in Newsweek, the author explains the harsh possible outcomes from teenagers sending at the own free will nude photos of themselves to their mates or lovers. Something that the author defines as “sexting” epidemic and analyses how the law is treating offenders and victims. The author makes an obvious claim that the criminal-justice system is too harsh to solve any issues that deal with teens and technology because this issue is becoming more common and although he doesn’t examine different or alternative ways to solve the problem, personally I agree with him that the law should not interfere with such juvenile cases because being exposed to others instead of the person it was intended for is punishment enough. In the article, the author brings personal stories which highlight three
Cristy Martinez Period: 07 Mrs. Zachan Language Arts November 01, 2011 The Catcher in the Rye The Catcher in the Rye should not be banned from schools. There are many schools who think that Catcher is a bad influence on teens however it is quite the opposite. The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger should not be banned from schools because teenagers can learn from Holden’s mistakes and teens are mature enough to tell wrong from right. Many parents are appalled and think that the book should be banned because of the profanity, teenage sex, and other inappropriate behaviors. However, there is a reason to all his misbehavior.
Please note that 30 of these people were adults and only three were in high school. The people that supported my thesis statement of, banning assault rifles and high capacity magazines would be pointless, had three responses. Seven people said the reason was because of rights, four people supported it because of liberty and eight people said that guns were not the problem in the first place it was the person who was in possession of the firearm. The people who disagreed to my statement also had three reasons why. Six people said they disagreed and that assault rifles and high capacity magazines should be banned because there is too much violence.
In addition, Shaffer effectively defends her idea that banning handguns will have no effect on reduction of violent crime, but may actually increase instances of gun crimes. This is due to the fact that civilians would no longer be able to defend themselves effectively. The second article, “Gun control standoff” both sides remain unsolved in bitter debate. Gun control continues to bring out the worst in public opinions. Jost states: “Gun control supporters blame the high rate of violent crime and the large number of gun accidents and suicides on the easy availability of firearms and
We all know that kids go around our back to parties and have a few drinks with friends but not many parents will stop this. This is not good, this is what is encouraging them to be worse later on. Firstly they are testing there boundaries, which if there are none, will make them believe they can do anything and get away with it, these habits would carry on into their later years when it comes to driving and they will become reckless because they believe that they can get away with anything. Secondly we shouldn’t be encouraging underage drinking because it will inflict an addiction onto our children that is close to impossible to shake off, if the kids are getting drunk every weekend at the age of 15 or 16 imagine what would happen to those same kids at 19 or 20? Melbourne's Murdoch Children's Research institute has done a study where 1520 teenagers drinking habits have been tracked for 10 years.
Thompson backs up his arguments very well in his critique which allows readers to really understand his point of view. Many critiques agree with Thompson that Sammy is not a “hero” because he did not stick up for the girls with good intentions; he is just a young kid looking for some attention from pretty girls and a new job. Thompson says that readers should consider that Updike is “the narrator through whose limited point of view the story is told.” Thompson is right to consider that a valid argument. Since Sammy is the narrator of the story he only sees the situation from his side. If the story was narrated by Lengel then the whole perspective of the situation would change.
The ridicules that have long followed the Amish will be one thing, but also the somewhat “false” portrayals will damper the relationship. It will be a task to break the ice and get the Amish client past the belief that he/she is being judged by me. I will have to focus on letting the client know that I am not doing that. Summary of Article #2 The second article “A Drug and Alcohol Intervention with Old Order Amish Youth: Dancing on the Devil’s Playground” by Chris Weber, James A. Cates and Shirley Carey, is of extreme importance to my career choice. The article discusses how important it is to tailor the drug and alcohol education to the Amish specific needs.
Some people were against the idea of abstinence because they said this would put their kids at risk by “providing a fear-based program that gave children incomplete, inaccurate, biased an sectarian information”. A women from Planned Parenthood referred to it as a “trick” to the students (517). Limbaugh disapproves of this opinion, and says it is “absurd” since he believes that this approach is honest and provides student with information about health endangerment. Students will learn about the truth of a sexually active
Therefore unlike the Daily Mail, which delights in demonising teenagers, The Observer encourages people to “try a little love instead”. Indeed if everyone tried a “little love” it would not only support teenagers but it would encourage them to behave and to well at school which would ultimately make them more successful. In conclusion the representation of teenagers in the media is completely unfair and wrong. I believe that we should all give teenagers more support and less criticism, including the Daily Mail. Being a teenager is a very difficult process as your body dramatically changes and you are subject to over-whelming hormones.
Yet I believe that this book, “The Chocolate War” by Robert Cormier, should be kept in schools to be read by teenagers. Many people believe that this book should be banned for the fact that it talks about bullying and violence. In a couple parts of the story, Jerry is beaten up. There are also multiple parts where the Vigils or Janza bully a kid. But that isn’t so bad that we should ban it.
