Have you ever wanted to gain insight into the life of a world-famous rock star? Today, you can, regarding the deceased lead singer of the famous rock/grunge band, Nirvana. Kurt Cobain was born on 20 February 1967 in Washington USA. Cobain was a sickly bronchitic child for most of his childhood. His parent's divorced when he was seven and Cobain said that his parent's split fueled a lot of the anger in Nirvana's music. After his parent's divorce he found himself going back and forth between various relatives and at one stage living homeless under a bridge. Cobain didn't have many friends in high school and he was often beaten up by the "jocks" . When he turned eighteen he left Aberdeen to live in a small town called Olympia. Cobain formed and reformed a series of bands before Nirvana was formed in 1986. “Smells Like Teen Spirit“ became Nirvana's most highly acclaimed and famous song. Not many people know it's exact lyrics but the hook was extremely catchy. The song went on to sell ten million copies and make a reported five hundred and fifty million dollars, leaving Nirvana overnight millionaires. Cobain did not know how to deal with the pressures of fame and success, and turned to drugs as a way to escape reality. He took many drugs such as heroine, cocaine, LSD and acid. Cobain was on drugs for most of Nirvana's live performances. He was sent to rehab multiple times for depression, and drug and alcohol addiction, yet he never became sober. At one stage, Kurt said at a live performance “Drugs are a waste of time. They destroy your memory and your self-respect and everything that goes along with your self esteem.” Over the course of his career Kurt became more and more malnourished and depressed, as the band's success grew into a phenomenon.
