Knowing The Right People Getting ahead in life can sometimes be difficult“, but” if one knows the right people, it makes a big difference. In my opinion, knowing the right people plays a great role in getting ahead of the curve. At work and at school are two places of interest where knowing someone will serve as an advantage. Although, sometimes knowing someone can serve as a disadvantage. What I mean by this will be explained. Sometimes, at work, one may give it all they have to get a promotion or a pay raise. Then as time progresses one begin realizing the only reason their co-worker is getting promoted is because he or she is best friends with the boss. This also applies to job or career hunting. If someone applies for a job, and the same day a different person applies for the same job, but the first person knows someone who already works there, they will receive the job. School, in my opinion, is all about luck. It is all about which teacher one receives. However, knowing the right person gives a great advantage. Say one has a friend who has had the experience of having a bad teacher. The friend can then tell them to ask not to be given that particular teacher. That, in turn, will give them the opportunity of receiving a better teacher. Although most of the time knowing the right people can serve as an advantage, sometimes, it can also be a disadvantage. Someone may know the right person and get a job at that place, but the only reason for receiving that job is because they knew someone. Then, a couple months or years down the road, they realize they were not meant for that certain job. The time wasted was a disadvantage to them. Whether it is getting ahead in school in getting ahead at work, knowing the right person is a great advantage. Most of the time, it is much more difficult to succeed if one does not know the right
