cultural Anthropology Kinship Case STudy The subject in question is Paul Johnston. Born in fortuna and raised in Arcata, Paul is a product of the affinity between his parents Filomena and John Johnston and their bilateral kinship. He retains a slight christian belief and his morals reflect such. His mother is an immigrant from the Azores Islands of Portugal of patrilineal descent. There she was apart of a family of eight children roman catholic, with one that had died during child birth. Upon the age of 19 she moved to her sisters home in the bottoms of Arcata following in a sort of chain migration, resulting in her residence along with two sisters and brother in Humboldt county. His father was born in Arcata the same day as his faternal twin Jim into a family of bilateral descent. He lived here with his parents, brother and two sisters, never leaving the area. Paul resides within his nuclear family's household, while attending school at HSU. Here his family largely supported by his father who commutes daily to earn wages. The home is ran much like a Matriachy where the mother decides on a majority of whats being done, although the father controls most of the assets financially, the house is ran and monitored by the mother. Upon further questioning as to why that is, the relationship between his mother and her parents was analyzed. The grandmother having many children monitored and directed the family unit. Children were dictated to fetch water, collect eggs and aid in the garden and with meals daily to see to that the family ran smoothly. The father to was strict and prevented the children from spending time with other families and in the city, so as to monitor and protect his children.
