Many nurseries are now located on site a primary or community school to help the transition between foundation stages 1 and 2 easier for the children. However the independent nurseries are funded by the fee that the parents/guardian’s will pay so their children can attend a private nursery or attend earlier then the government funded age. Community schools are state schools and are not influenced by businesses and religious groups. They are completely controlled and owned by the local education authority. These schools will only have children who are from the local community as their admissions policy can be very strict.
Deven Gonzalez Assignment 2.01 1. Which five statistics surprised you the most and/or caused you to be most concerned and why ? Only 35 – 44% of adults 75 years or older are physically active, and 28-34% of adults ages 65-74 are physically active. This surprised me because the older people are more active. Children now spend more than seven and a half hours a day in front of a screen.
School uniforms are not only items that cause a lack of freedom of expression but also a largely ineffective way to help solve the problems they were meant to. Actually, look at it this way “Consider for a moment the problem of gangs. The wearing of gang colors is only a symptom of much deeper social problems, and in most of the schools where gangs are prevalent, the wearing of gang colors has already been banned. Uniforms do not address the complex social realities that lead to gang culture”. (“Point: The High Cost of School Uniforms”).
Charter schools care about scores and student learning. They do this by not putting students on tracks and holding them to the same standard (Guggenheim). Because of my luck in public schools, I never saw the effect that a “lemon” teacher had on student learning, but I see that the “dance of the lemons” that Guggenheim talks about is a serious problem that can be fixed with enough attention. The problem with charter schools is that, because of the limited space, there has to be a public lottery for students to be enrolled. Kids who realize that education is a way out of their rough financial situation have no other option besides charter schools at times.
In Cuba the only way to learn English was through English program financed by the government and private teacher was not allowed. These programs were very poor academically at mine time and the teachers were not well prepared. In addition, the government objective was to encourage students to learn Russian because its alliance with the Soviet Union. In contrast, Julia once she got Dominican Republic and could start the school her parents registered her in a bilingual private school and she started getting grammatical lesson with goods professors and feeling more comfortable with the new language. My third difficult was the first time when I saw a book in English here in this country.
If the slum residents want to attend the ninth grade and beyond, then they would have to pay for a private school. This is not possible for a lot of these people. College is even more unthought of because how competitive it is. Since school is not required the majority of the parents do not want to send their children because they believe that they would be better off helping the family sort through garbage. For example Abdul’s parents took him out of school in order to replace his father as a garbage sorter when his father became ill with tuberculosis.
Also, they will not ask themselves are they really doing better. It is a fact that most of the charter schools have the same or lower standardized test scores as public schools. Many people do not think independently and look at how the schools are set up differently and if that has an impact on students. The audience’s perspective is not likely to be narrow because education is important to most people whether they have children or not. Many people do not look past the surface of what is going on with things like charging disciplinary fees and whether or not they are necessary.
While most complain about the bilingual programs being put into school, we have to think about the benefit of this as well. Most professors agree that this is a beneficial investment; children that are schooled over in Europe often times learn multiple languages, it would help the children to educate them with a foreign language (Martinez 3). While yes, immigrants in our country may sometimes cost a little bit extra money to us through taxes or to the government, for the most part it all evens out and we gain it back in some other
School uniforms can also be a very uncomfortable fashion that students would not take a liking to. They also won’t be the “quick fix” that many people think they are. The first reason uniforms should not be required is that most schools across the country believe uniforms take away from an individual’s identity, so they don't require their students wear them. In today's world a person’s identity and having a good sense of self is important to the diversity that Americans have shown in the past. In schools that require uniforms the student body all look like the same person, very bland and boring people.
He also succeeds at appealing to his targeted audience through a loose, but serious, form of humor. Moore presents his arguments very well. He doesn’t over talk any of his topics and makes it very clear and easy to follow. While we do live in a nation of idiots, the wrong people, the teachers and students, are being blamed and the blame falls solely on the higher ups and the government. Moore’s purpose in writing this essay is to educate people on what is really behind the failing education system, mostly public schools.
