In today’s society, people are obsessed with the notion of success and how to achieve it. Many people wonder if there really is a secret to success. According to Colin Powell, former Secretary of State, “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, learning from failure.” Throughout the book Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell proves Colin Powell’s quote to be true. There are no secrets one can use to become successful.
Symbolic: Chuck Schuldiner’s Perseverance “When did it begin? The change to come was undetectable. The open wounds expose the importance of our innocence. A high that can never be bought or sold.” Death-Symbolic. When referring to stories of success, one can mention the fact that success breeds fame, fortune, and everything else that appeals to typical human society.
He believes that you can try as hard as you want but you can’t make it to something that does not exist. Much like the American dream, Gatsby’s goal is just an idea created in his head and no matter how much he is shown that he can’t get to where he wants, he refuses to accept the fact that he’s not getting anywhere. “His dream [seems] so close that he [can’t] hardly fail to grasp it... Gatsby [believes] in the green light… It [eludes them]... but [they] will… stretch out [their] arms further,”(180) thus showing that he will not give up even if he can’t get where he wants. By using the word eluded, Nick is saying that the dream is escaping them. The American Dream is just an illusion that is created.

A solider to emulate “True heroism is remarkably sober, very un-dramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost- Arthur Ashe”. It takes a strong and dedicated person to push through the names, the criticism and become a success. No one sets out to be a hero or become someone’s inspiration, but you as the person looking up to them, look past the fame and the media to what is inside. No one else may see it but you know that is there, greater than anything.
In “Maestro” the inspirational journey of Paul trying to grip his highest dream there was disappointment but he still received “Honorable mentions”. Paul ended up within a life “with a women and child that he loved, within the confines of I life he hated” the disappointment of not achieve his dreams and the loss of Eduard Keller does show in “maestro” but Paul doesn’t realize that he isn’t failing he is at a great level he may not be “one in a million” but he sure is “one in a thousand” and that itself is a pretty big goal to achieve itself. Paul ended up with a girl that he loves, he was no longer shy to bullies and gained confidence and he grew so much throughout “Maestro”, not all of Paul’s life is full of failure and disappointment but rather “a small hurt to save a wasted life”. Paul achieved high and he gained a wife and child afterwards this overthrows the big disappointments in his life to make his journey through it
Katie Pool Period 3 3/4/15 Essay prompt 10 Vaclav Havel once said, “Work for something because it is good, not just because it stands a chance to succeed.” Work for something because it means something to you and you believe in it not just because it will make a profit, you will never truly succeed if you do that. If you work without drive or passion it will show, how can someone be expected to do their job well if they do not care about it or if they don’t think it is “good”. Philosopher, writer, and mechanic Matthew B. Crawford gave up his job at a think tank to pursue his passion of repairing motorcycles. He gave up a well-paid, intellectual job for a blue-collar equally intellectual job because he believed it was “good” or “real” work. Most people want to be is happy and how can that
In 2 Sam. 16:20, advice is translated from the Hebrew word corresponding to Strong’s H6098. What that indicates is that various Hebrew words are translated as
we need to show them that we care, what better way to show them we appreciate them than to carve a replica of them in something as enduring as rock. Michael McLean, my mom, and Jataya are three of the heroes that the world doesn’t know by name. They are always helping others, but they never get the recognition that they deserve. They deserve to be put on Mt.
However, he had earned over 1,093 U.S. patents (a government authority to sell an invention for a period of time), and simply took a step further with the borrowed ideas, making it possible for the invention to be a success. He had some ideas or inspiration from others, but he worked to make the invention possible. That could be the reason why Thomas Edison had said, “Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration”. Now, what inventions would make Thomas elligible for a spot on Mount Rushmore? Well, Thomas Edison had created several machines or inventions, but the ones that have contributed to us the most would most likely be the incandescent lightbulb and electric lighting system, the phonograph, the kinetoscope, and the alkaline battery.
