The Journey into Adolescence (Introduction) Life is a never ending journey of trial and error. We are continuously growing and developing ourselves; from the moment we take our first breath, until the inevitable last one. The most unique characteristic of the human race is the ability to make choices, instead of reacting off of instinct the way most primitive animals do. Although we were blessed with this remarkable ability, we often don’t make the correct choices. It’s safe to say that the choices we make determine the way we develop. Up until now, I was under the influence that the choices I made in life were all my own, unbiased, and free of influence. I was wrong! The choices we make are influenced by many different factors. These factors include genetics, the environment, and society, just to name a few. In this paper, I will discuss how these factors have both helped and impaired me while striving to develop into the best human being I can be. I will also discuss what I’ve been able to accomplish in my short 25 years in this world, and also what I plan to accomplish in my future in order to better myself and the human race. This is my journey into adolescence! (Body) It was the 7th day of April, 1986. Tears rolled down an overjoyed mother’s cheeks as she laid her eyes on the youngest of her three offspring for the first time. She named me Victor; it was her father’s name, an honor that I deeply cherish. My mother considered me a blessing from God. She had complicated pregnancies with both my brother and sister and her doctor told her that she would not be able to have any more children due to a very fragile uterus. Thankfully, she did not give up hope. She prayed, begged, and pleaded continuously for God to send her another child. Seven years later, her prayer was answered and I was born.
