Paper One Question 1: What kind of work do you do on a daily basis? Response: When I’m working at the desk I answer phones and schedule appointments for myself and the other men and women working there. When I work on the floor I cut, color, wash, and style hair. I also wax eyebrows, sweep the floor, and fold towels. Question 2: What made you choose this area of employment for a career? Response: I didn’t really have a plan on what I wanted to do for my career, but the skill center course for cosmetology seemed interesting to me. I went into this career field not knowing if I would enjoy it and came to find I loved it. Question 3: What education training is necessary for this position? Response: I went through skill center which is optional then continued my training at Mott Community College. You have to have 1,500 training hours total to graduate. Question 4: What high school subjects did you find helpful? Response: Skill center was very beneficial. Question 5: Are there specialized skills or experiences required? Response: You have to know the basics of cutting, coloring, and styling hair, but you also have to be very patient, social, and able to multitask. Question 6: Are there opportunities for advancement/promotion in this field? Response: You can choose to always work under someone and on the floor or you can become a manager or owner of a salon. The harder you work the more clients you have and the more money you make. Question 7: What are some things you like about this job? Response: I love that I can make my own hours. There is also a sense of freedom and expression without someone always telling you what to do. The styles are always changing and you get to see many different people. I also enjoy the people I work with and the feeling of being laid back. Question 8: What are some things you dislike about this job? Response: Having to wait
