Several leadership scholars and Christian writers have used different leadership models to characterize the leadership style of Jesus Christ.   The question about the leadership style of Jesus has been described as neologism by eminent Christian writers due to the fact that the word leadership does not exist in the original biblical language. This was described by Joseph Castleberry in his study on leadership style of Jesus, he pointed out that “because the phrase is a neologism that has arisen through modernistic social and behavioral science studies of leadership, one would search in vain through the literature of the first twenty centuries of church for reference to Jesus leadership style” (Castleberry, 2004). He further maintained that the problem with such research-based approaches in identifying leadership style is pseudoemperical pretension. Some leadership scholars has defined Jesus leadership style as strategic, visionary, motivational, directional, team building, shepherding, re-engineering and bridge building but have failed to pinpoint it to any scholarly reference of the concept. Others writers have used the analysis of leadership traits like humility, focus, commitment, compassion, integrity, endurance and peacemaking to define the leadership style of Jesus.

 
Technically speaking Jesus applied almost every possible leadership philosophy throughout his ministry on earth. His leadership approach was mostly defined by his behavior and responses to leadership dilemma. His consistency in behavioral pattern and on the spot reaction to contingent situations conforms to Andrew DuBrin’s definition of leadership style. DuBrin’s defined leadership style as “the relatively consistent pattern of behavior that characterize a leader” (DuBrin, 1995).
