She had just ordered coffee and scrambled eggs when she noticed a man who was familiar to her in a booth in the back of the diner. She couldn’t believe her luck. It was Baltimore’s mayor, William Donald Schaefer. She knew she must go speak to him about her dilemma. Outraged about what she thought was the mayor’s idea,
Having a brief personal encounter with Marvelle in the past and feeling guilty Franklin wants to make amends and the only way he knows how is through the lord. Upon arriving at Marvelle’s home he is greeted at the door by Marvelle’s son Curtis who invites him inside. Marvelle, who is standing in the doorway of the kitchen, offers Franklin some coffee. Franklin immediately starts to admire Marvelle’s appearance as she brews the coffee, her long red hair that desperately needed to be brushed, the baggy jeans that sag on her hips and the look of sadness on her face. The two sat together and conversed about their personal lives, their sinful encounter with each other in the past, and also questioned whether or not God would play any role in their lives.

Coffee is an innocent enough substance, but it represents so much more than just a refreshing drink that wakes you up. When coffee is present, people talk. They socialize, gossip, and provide news. Race and Diversity 31 October 2011 Sidewalk While reading Mitchell Duneier’s novel, “Sidewalk,” I was struck with a whirlwind of different emotions from not only the words, but from the photographs as well. A black man, more than likely homeless, is covering his table of goods with a plastic sheet while the rain comes poring down.

As we began eating I continuously discuss with the client what my company can do for him as well as how wonderful the food looked on my plate. When I looked up I noticed a frown on the businessman face. The waiter immediately noticed the faux pas that had occurred and whispered in my ear that in Asia, its common not to talk during a meal because the food is the main focus,
