Thomas Jefferson and Elizabeth Cady Stanton did a fantastic job in each of their pieces however some words can lose the readers in the process and take their minds from understanding the point to trying to figure out what a certain word means, and with that you can lose attention from the audience. Although it was acceptable back then because the norms for speaking and vocabulary were much higher than they are now, Barry is just relating to today’s average vocabulary. His style is centered on being informal and conversational. He is able to inform his audience of the fallacies of his kitchen and living room appliances and talk to them like they’re human, rather than talking at them as if he was giving a lecture. People don’t have that long of an attention span.
Nigella Lawson and Jamie Oliver are well known television chefs who cook and present different meals which people enjoy to watch. However, both chefs use a range of different language devices and style of speaking to instruct how to cook meals and entertain their viewers using their individual personality. Their spoken language reflects upon their image, audience, purpose and social attitudes. Jamie Oliver successfully uses many language techniques to help him communicate with his audience. He has a very relaxed and informal approach with his audience that features the use of colloquial language, in his opening he greets the audience by saying ‘hi guys’.
Hopefully you will think twice next time you say it is nothing more than slang. It is a part of the English language and should be treated with just as much respect as the English language. Dave even uses humor to lighten the mood. He uses crazy names for the seemingly mundane food items. He turns a grilled cheese into a “Gavin McLeod and Charo”(Eggers 86). When Dave gives Toph peace and laughter, he provides emotional support that will help him become a more well rounded kid. Taking care of basic physical needs is the baseline requirement of good parenting.
When I look on the menu, the way they have their food displayed is great. Every time I order something, I get something that does not look like what I saw on the menu. I know that my food is not going to look exactly like the menu, but let it look at least something like the menu. When you get food that looks totally different from what you saw and the waiter is trying to convince you that it is the same order, then it is a problem. All I am saying is let the presentation on the menu look somewhat like the food that they are serving you.

The children’s menu is designed to provide the servings required for balanced nutrition. Although I am not in charge of the weekly menu, I agree with most of the meals and snack choices since they include the appropriate servings from the fruit, vegetables, meat/protein and milk groups. Wallace sticks to one side throughout his article rather than touching on both matters. I think he is using his article to be persuasive with everyone, but at the same time not be demanding that they jump on board with him. I see Wallace’s purpose for his text ‘Consider the Lobster’ is to show/question the idea and the purpose of the MLF and discuss it’s relevance in a potential or already violation to animal rights. I feel Wallace wants us to see both sides of the controversy between gourmet food lovers and animal rights activists and maybe even to reason with both arguments for and against to some extent. Wallace’s audience is vary broad.
An older man approaches Romero’s home asking if he can do some simple yard work and Romero accepts because of his awareness to these people’s needs for work. Gilb also shows the beauty of simplicity through the old man in his story. The old man only wanted to help Romero and Romero was grateful for his help. “Then Romero went inside, scrambled up enough eggs and chile and cheese for the both of them and rolled it all in some tortillas. He brought out a beer.” Gilb impeccably shows the readers of how much of a kind person Romero is to his fellow man.
One of the reasons is that Jaime started his career at the very bottom and worked hard to get to where he is now. He was a dishwasher and is now a chef and instructor at a prestigious cooking school. I really admire the hard work that he put in. I met and worked with other chefs who were also very good, but I didn’t identify with their background and style of teaching as much as I did with Jaime. I also appreciate the fact that Jaime uses his sense of humor when he teaches.
