Identify, isolate, Intimidate, Remove The school district has implemented no tolerance policies that simply do not investigate, determine cause, resolve and reinforce positive behaviors. Bullying by some students is rampant and the simple “no tolerance” policy enforces these behaviors by bullies. Bullying is taking place in front of teachers and administrators who pretend not see and say nothing. The student that is bullied is then victimized again by the school by being expelled or punished if situation comes to the attention of the school when he responds. The behavior by bullies then is virtually encouraged as students become afraid or feel that the administration will not react appropriately should they inform them of a bulling situation. Students at this age will make mistakes and react inappropriately occasionally in response to a bullying situation if they feel there is no help from the school. Clearly each incident needs to be investigated and any punishment should be appropriate based on the circumstances involved. It is clear the principles only goal in dealing with behavior issues in the school is to indentify, isolate, intimidate, and remove. This simply will not work if no effort is made to correctly indentify were and with who the problem started. Although an immediate situation is removed the underlying tensions remain. Many times the bullies actually remains in school and obviously his behaviors will continue with other students. Now that the behavior of these bullies are being encouraged or allowed to occur by the school its only matter of time before a “columbine” situation occurs. When concerns are expressed about the schools handling of any problem, the principle is quick to give a laundry list of training and education that make her qualified for the position she is in.
