Does my life have a purpose? Was I put on earth do to something or be someone great? To answer these questions, I have examined three different philosophical views: realism, idealism, and skepticism. Considering all the differences and similarities these philosophies posse, I was able to better formulate my belief system. I decided that I agreed with the view of the realists therefore, concluding that I do believe that I have a purpose in life. But, I do not yet know if I was put on earth to do something or be someone great because my life is not yet over. Finding a purpose in my life will help me better understand reality and my human existence. In my opinion, I existence because I have an ultimate purpose; God put me on this earth to discover and fulfill it. According to the realists, it is very important to understand our purpose in life because it is the reason we exist. On the other hand, for idealists it is important to understand that no one can prove the purpose in life; therefore no one can prove if we exist. Finding our purpose in life, according to skepticism is merely pointless because we do not have a purpose; human existence was caused by chance. Personally, I want to discover my purpose in life to reach my full potential. Discovering a purpose allows us to fully examine our existence. Previously stated, the realists believe that everyone and everything has a purpose in life. They describe this through the four causes: material, formal, efficient, and final. To better understand these causes we look at the example used in class, “the molding of play-doh.” The material cause (that out of which a thing comes into being) is the play-doh itself. Then the formal cause (the form, pattern, or essence of the thing) is the sphereness to cubeness. Next, the efficient cause (the source of the change) is the teacher or student. Lastly, is the final
