Is the World Changing for the Better?

The changing of the world is a widely discussed topic. It is spoken of indirectly through conversations about global warming, construction sites, and believe it or not even immigration laws. The truth is, even though the world changed constantly, we cannot say for sure that the world will get better. People in Japan may have said that before World War II, and a while later bombs are being dropped in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Allan Goodman seems so sure that the world will get better. I disagree. There is a whole theory that finds Mr. Goodman’s idea incorrect. It has always fascinated me, and I know much about it. It is called chaos theory. It states that the world is staying the same, if not worse. We could live and feel just as we do now if the world had never changed at all. For example: Houses nearly 3000 years ago were small, hut shaped things. Cleaning it could take ten minutes. Houses about 1000 years later, however, were larger. We invented the broom. A bigger house but a more efficient cleaning tool doesn’t change anything. It still will take about ten minutes. Now speed things up about 2000 more years. We are in the 21st century. Our houses are humungous, and we’ve invented the vacuum, the duster, floor polish, and Windex. It takes us 30-60 minutes to clean the whole house thoroughly. See the time difference? And because it takes us longer to clean the house, we don’t do it. Not only do we take more time to do things now, but we now live in a dirtier place. We’re hurting our ozone layer, killing innocents in Iraq, depriving animals of their homes, and robbing people of their culture. Our suicide rate is higher than it has ever been! Can the world get better? No. With more time comes new technology. With new technology comes a higher risk of danger, the departure of innocent lives, and less space to live in. I am not a pessimist; rather I am just being
