Is sleep that important? I’ve always thought that when we sleep, our brain also goes to sleep in some way as well. But it doesn’t simply turn off. It is not a time-out of unconsciousness during which nothing much goes on until we wake up. The brain always remains active. Then why do we need sleep when our brain is always awake? While the body rests, the brain has the time to get "refreshed," to prepare for the next day. It is forming new passage ways to help people learn and remember new information while it still controls many body functions that include breathing. Whether you're learning math, how to play an instrument, or how to drive a car, sleep helps improve learning and skills to problem solve . Sleep plays a vital role in good health and wellbeing throughout our life. Getting enough quality sleep at the right times can help protect our mental health, physical health, quality of life, and safety. The way we feel when awake depends partially on what happens while sleeping. During sleep, our body is working to support healthy brain function and maintain physical health . When I study for big exams, I used to stay up all night studying for that exam, but I never saw improvement on my test scores. At that point, next I tried choosing a certain time to study, focused my study during that time and decided to make room for the sleep. Although I studied less than when I stayed up all night, surprisingly I did a lot better on the exam. As sleep supports healthy growth and development, it also activates the body to relief the hormone that promotes normal growth in children and young adults. This hormone boosts muscle mass and helps repair cells and tissues in every age group .Getting enough quality sleep at the right times helps you function well throughout the day.
