There is a saying, “Money is the root of all evil.” This is true if the money is obtained through ill-gotten ways. What happened to Tom Walker is symbolic of what can happen to any human consumed by greed. He or she will lose their soul to the obsession. There were many important themes present in this story that relate to choices we make and the consequences that comes with it. Money and material things do not truly satisfy a person's life or make a person happy.
In response, Priestley uses satire when the Inspector responds by saying: "After all, it's better to ask for the Earth than to take it." This tells the audience that Priestley is using Birling to represent a greedy capitalist who just wants to take everything for himself and not share his resources. As a socialist, Priestly would criticise this. As the play was written in 1945, three years before the development of he health service and after the Second World War, there was more equality and fairness within society, so Birling would be seen as quite old-fashioned and narrow minded. In addition, Sheila appears to be heavily influence by the way her parents behave.
It is basically a win for the U.S because we take advantage of people, by promoting investments we know thecountry will never be able to pay back; because of the interest and the amount of the loan.It is amazing how a group of individuals can make so much influence and cheat countries around the globe, and funnel money from the world bank in order to do so. It sadden me how they can damage a country, and how they are taking peoples dignity and culture as well as their lands. This clearly shows how economic growth and development doesn’t benefit everyone in a country, for example the indigenous tribes that were being forced of their land for oil.It seems that governments, big business and the banks will stop at nothing to get what they want. They get away with it because we all live in a state of ignorance. I wonder when we will say enough and demand that these institutions conduct their business with honesty, integrity and complete transparency.It’s no wonder that these countries hate the United States so passionately.

Galbraith Chapters 1 &2 Argument Spans Chapter 1: “The Affluent society” The problem that Galbraith is trying to point out in the first chapter is that “wealth is the relentless enemy of understanding”(p.1). This wealth has brought change among the people but has kept the ideas of the world of poverty. In the past, almost everybody was poor, but today in the affluent world people are consumed with wealth to the extreme point that they begin to believe that they are poor or “ill” With poor understanding, people are not open to accepting new ideas that can aid this new and affluent society. The economic ideas that are used today, that were “once interpreted the world of mass poverty have made no adjustment to the world of affluence” (p.2).
The Devil which is a parallel to money is a motif so people such that in Tom's position, will borrow money from him. The Devil has essentially converted Tom into his spawn, as he is doing the same thing the Devil once did to him. The greed and money ultimately resulted in his death, and Tom's userer subjects led the end of their lives because of the debt they had to pay. The subjects indulged in the thought of free money, easily accessible money, ruining their lives, which is what the 'Devil' quiescently did to Tom Walker. The minimum wage is a form of coercion in which it forced employers to hire at an arbitrary price that otherwise wouldn't be used if not for the government's intervention. The minimum wage causes a few detrimental effects. By raising the minimum wage the employer would either have to fire workers because they cannot keep up with the wages or raise the prices of their products which don’t benefit the so called 99%. Another point is that there doesn't need to be a minimum wage because the superseded fear is that businesses will hire at super low wages caused by collusion. Well contrary to this popular belief the real world doesn't work this way at all.
It’s just some more empty promises from wealthy, money hungry officials who just want votes and publicity to tell people how they are going to fix things and it will be different.
