Is Christ the King a healthy school? Startlingly, at Christ the King, they suggest that they only produce healthy foods: since the government introduced changes in the school meals in 2006. The government decided that confectionery, fizzy drinks and deep fried food should either be banned from the school menu or limited to once or twice a week. On the school website is states... “Christ the King school provides a healthy balance of foods available to students throughout the school day by using only healthy ingredients which are low in fat and salt.” This implies that the school endeavours to make food supplements as healthy as possible. On the picture to the left, you can see the Christ the King menu for week one. It has a variety of protein, carbohydrates and fibre as well as vitamins and minerals and fats. In my opinion I would say that the menu has an excess amount of macro- nutrients; which will supply the pupils with more energy. This could either make the pupils more enthusiastic in classes or more agitated. In addition, on the menu there is a salad bar and fresh melon served daily. Fruit and vegetables have a lot of vitamins in: Vitamins help essentially with normal metabolism, growth and development. Also they help concentration and calmness of a person. Moreover, I think the school gives the option for a pupil to have a healthy meal as the majority on the menu has fibre. A variety of calcuim, iodine and iron is situated on the menu, resulting in stronger bones, more efficent energy production and less fatigue. Which is ideal in a class-room as more pupils will be likely to concentrate. Although there are many good contributions the menu brings, there is also a pessimistic area. The menu needs to have a variety but there is a lot of food that have a high percentage
