Irish Culture The three cultures I was really happy to learn I was related to were Italian, Irish, and Indian. The three big I's. So I did some research on all three of them because I could only do one topic. Out of all three of them I found Irish to stand out to me better than Italian and Indian. So this is what I found. Irish music is upbeat at times, peaceful and relaxing. You can do anything when you listen to this music. If you ever go to a Irish music festival you will find yourself very relaxed and everything that was on your mind will disappear. It was usually used for entertaining large groups and family's at parties and festivals. In their music you can here a lot of different types of soft instruments that you usually don't hear in American music. Some of those instruments include a fiddle, harp, Uilleann Pipes, banjo, accordion, Mandolin, Bodhran and a lot more. These instruments are what make Irish music so relaxing. The Irish heritage does have a traditional dance. This dance is usually practiced because it passes the time, it is the traditional dance and it is very popular around the world. Three instruments that I will introduce to you are Uilleann Pipes, Bodhran and a Mandolin. Uilleann Pipes are the national bagpipes of Ireland. They are found in the woodwind section of the band. There sound is much sweeter and quieter than many other bagpipes. It also has a different harmonic structure than any other. Bodhran is an Irish frame drum. It has animal skin as the cover. You can find it in the percussion section of the band. Some Bodhran's are played by striking the drum with a bone, tipper, beater or a cipin. They are always played in a seated position. Mandolin are like a guitar. They come in many shapes but it is originally round or tear dropped. You can find it in the string section of the band. It is usually plucked or with a plectrum. It was
