Interpersonal Conflict Management Case Study Michael DeBenedetto Nabeel Chouche May 8, 2012 Dr. Tenzin Dorjee HCOM 220 Interpersonal Conflict Management California State University, Fullerton Case Study Description Interpersonal conflict is a burden that unfortunately afflicts all people even from an exceptionally early age. The nature of conflict is simply a fact of human life and occurs in all types of settings. No matter what breed of conflict an individual might be experiencing, by taking a step back, it is possible to analyze the situation and find resources for healthy conflict resolution. In this particular case study we will be examining a personal conflict episode that Michael has been experiencing over the past four months. This research will be viewed from two different sets of perspectives in order to give validity to the study. On one hand, Michael DeBenedetto will be giving a personal account of the interpersonal conflict through his experience in the relationship. The second perspective will be through a third party source, Nabeel Chouche, who has systematically observed the situation as well as taken interview data from both parties in the conflict. The interpersonal struggle is between Michael and his girlfriend though multiple episodes across time, dealing with issues concerning time management. In interpersonal relationships, there are naturally occurring contradictions or dialectics that often take place. In this particular case study we will evaluate the importance of autonomy and connectedness as well as the discovery of a healthy balance in how they should be viewed in a romantic relationship. The first major conflict that occurred between the couple was a dissent based on Michael wanting to spend time with his girlfriend, Brooke, who repudiated, because she had many other obligations to attend to.
