Not only have their menu remained the same but so have their suppliers. They have been getting their beef from the same supplier for more years than Murrel can actually remember, and use Idaho potatoes instead of faster-growing cheaper potatoes from Florida and California (Melnick, 2011). Socially they set out to continually provide customers with their fresh made to order burgers and fries along with fresh add-on items like jalapenos and onions to name a few. Five Guys focuses on using their money to produce high quality food and still till this day do not advertise. Instead the company uses the money that would go to advertising to encourage employees to be courteous, clean, and proficient and food preparation.
Kentucky Fried Chicken started much like the Urban Outfitters. Travelers used to pack sandwiches and the like before going on a trip. Harlan Sanders felt like many of them would be willing to have the option of a good hot home cooked meal. It was based upon this idea that he began to sell a special recipe chicken from a roadside stand; the rest is
Chick-Fil-A, originally known as the Dwarf Grill, was founded by S. Truett Cathy in Hapeville in 1946. The famous quote of the company is, “We didn’t invent the chicken, just the chicken sandwich”. After 39 years of successful business and growth, the company that started out as a single mom and pop restaurant has now become today a franchise that has 865 stores. When President Obama moved to the White House, a Five Guys staffer suggested sending him a T-shirt. “That’s cheap!” Murrell shot back. Playing coy worked, and soon Obama, trailed by TV cameras, stopped by a store. He ordered a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, fresh jalapeños, and mustard — a classic example of Five Guys’ formula that sells 2 million burgers a week and was named Zagat’s “best fast food burger” for 2010. For this reporter, evaluating the burger first-hand was problematic: I’ve been a vegetarian for more than a dozen years.

This is also the view of John Podesta in an article written by Forbes. John Podesta’s version of the American Dream is, “one part opportunity, one part family, one part hard work and one part dumb luck.” This is true in the case of my sister-in-law, Dianne Charles and her husband Bob Jr. His parents Bob Sr and Judy Charles started their McDonald’s franchises this way. It all began because Judy’s family lived next door to Ray Kroc in Illinois. At that time, they were just married and they were beginning to live the average American working class life. One day their parent’s neighbor, Ray Kroc approached them about opening and starting a McDonald’s franchise in Boulder, Colorado.
