The most prevalent intercultural communication barrier in America is prejudice. Assumption of superiority of one’s own cultural tradition than of others is the cultural snobbishness that creates the fastest barrier that inhibits communication rather than enhancing it. Ethnocentrism tendency is not always negative; it enhances group pride and patriotism and encourages cultural traditions in one’s culture. Extreme ethnocentrism is the core that creates barriers between groups and others, this is when groups only views it own preference as always as the best way. Prejudice goes beyond race, a study found that when a female and a male holds the same job description, the males job is considered to be more prestigious than the female’s. (Beebe, Beebe, Raymond, 2008) Even though gender and racial discrimination is illegal in the United States, this law has not adapted to some opinionated people. Prejudice will never be eliminated, but people that want to educate themselves can eliminate it from their lives and develop strategies to understand others who differ. To help manage the uncertainty that is developed within cultures and specific communication can be reversed by first, developing the “Seek Information” bridging strategy. Seeking information from book, magazines or from people will enhance the quality of intercultural communication. The second strategies are, asking questions and listen effectively to others so that information that is gathered will be confirmed with accuracy to your expectations and assumptions. The third strategy is to develop a third culture that will mutually benefit the interactive environment in which the intercultural communication occurs, this will enhance the quality of communication and the dialogue will evolve in a positive manner with all
