Inside Idaho at the University of Idaho Library, was established in 2001/2002. This project was made possible by the Institute of Museum and Library Services who awarded the Congressional Appropriated National Leadership grant to the University of Idaho Library in 1999. There where some other grants awarded so that this project could get on its way. In total there were three grants and two team members to start the project.
What is Inside Idaho and why was it started? Inside Idaho is a data base of all the GIS information that has been collected throughout the years around Idaho. All this information has been put together on the website. The site includes all the data sets so that people that would like to utilize the data may do so. Since the program is located in the library and all the computers are able to access the data. Also the library has made so that it is accessible on the World Wide Web.
What components do Inside Idaho have available offer people that access the data? There is the GeoData which consists of looking up by Theme, Spatial organization, contributor, Text Search and National Spatial Data Infrastructure. Each of these areas will probably bring a person to the information they are looking for. There is also a map projection that may be useful to people looking for information on Idaho. This projection is the Idaho Transverse Mercator projection also known as the IDTM projection. The map projection has different formats that are read by most of them require ArcView or software or similar software. All the data is available online under the GeoData for download and us by anyone how would like to use the data that has been collected.
