Innovation, Design, and Creativity Tara Erne OI/361 November 9, 2011 Robert Irabor Innovation, Design, and Creativity Innovation is currently the chief propelling force in business. With the escalation of international markets and the strengthening competition for clienteles, personnel, and other vital resources, the capability to develop constantly state-of-the-art products, services, processes, and strategies is crucial. Whereas creativity is the preliminary stage for any sort of innovation, design is the course of action through which a creative notion is transformed into actuality. Innovation, design, and creativity have comparative qualities, but also some distinctions. The description of innovation is the undertaking of developing an idea or product that is has never been acknowledged before. An idea or product that has been enhanced to major levels also can be a form of innovation. Creativity, paired with implementation is the building blocks for innovation. Creativity is classified a mental trait that permits an individual to think outside of the box, which develops innovative or unique tactics to a specific task. Design is also crucial to how innovation is acquired. Design, like innovation and creativity is about observing average objects or ideas and figuring out how they can be improved upon. The definition of design is the creative plan that produces an innovative quantifiable outcome. “Design is about doing things consciously, and not because they have always done in a certain way, it is about comparing alternatives to select the best possible solution; it is about exploring and experimenting” (von Stamm, 2003, “Chapter 1, Design”).
