Toyota’s motto “Moving Forward” accurately captures the essence of innovation. Under this motto, and its perfected emblem, Toyota has achieved tremendous success over the years, establishing a headstrong reputation for delivering reliable, efficient, and fashionable automobiles centered on the basic theme of 'innovation into the future”. Today, Toyota is the world's second or third largest manufacturer of automobiles in both unit sales and in net sales, and the #1 seller of retail vehicles in the US. In the United States, Toyota has roughly double the sales of Honda, and has replaced Chrysler Group as the #3 seller. It produces over 5.5 million vehicles per year, equivalent to one every six seconds (ToyoLand.com). How did Toyota become successful? The answer is innovation. First, what is innovation? Innovation is not simply delivering fancy eye candy or a just an invention. It is the process of turning ideas into reality and capturing value from them. Innovation is the crystallization of ideas and making inventions work technically and commercially. As defined by Edison, “innovation is the process of growing inventions and good ideas into practical use.” The process entails continuous research, knowledge and a strong staff oriented whole fully and passionately to a common goal. Innovation is important because the results provide a competitive edge and an essence of uniqueness to the business. Implementing its core concepts, being innovative, can enable the business to soar above others achieving a stronger success growth, gaining market share, and increasing profitability in offering customers more then what they may need in a neat package.
