There are so many ways in which people can differ from each other, including, for example: Appearance Gender Race Culture Ability Talent Beliefs. By recognising and understanding our individual differences and embracing them, and moving beyond simple tolerance, we can create a productive environment in which everybody feels valued. Equality is ensuring individuals or groups of individuals are treated fairly and equally and no less favourably, specific to their needs, including areas of race, gender, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation and age. It is recognised that some people and groups, because of a range of differences, find it more difficult to have their voice heard in mainstream society - their views, needs and perspectives may not be routinely taken into account, for example in planning services or undertaking research. Inclusion is about positively striving to meet the needs of different people and taking deliberate action to create environments where everyone feels respected and able to achieve their full potential.
Traditional imagery of the once nurturing housewife has been overridden in the media with frequent depictions of women as sexual objects. These objectifications are solely based on their physical appearance and sexual appeal (Caruthers, 2006). The socially constructed myths and ideologies in modern day society implant onto woman that they are or should be concerned about their appearance. This is what influences a guy’s impression. However we all acknowledge that one should just pay enough attention to her physical beauty because inner beauty is most important.
The slender, “beautiful” women are regarded as influential, successful, and erotic. This being said, it is very much so based on facts and reason, also known as logos, in the aspect that real life is often viewed this way. Throughout Elementary school up to High school, no one wanted to be best friends with “the fat kid”. As the world already knows, girls and women in general seem to stress over their physical appearance and have been especially concerned about weight for many years now. The emotional effect media has on a woman’s mindset, or ethos, could very well send her overboard into what is commonly known as an eating disorder.
This implies that all people can be placed into either category, when it isn’t in fact this simple. Sex is an attributed status, whereas gender must be learned. The learned behaviours of what it is to be a ‘woman’ in society is one engulfed in many inequalities. In this analysis of gender issues, I would like to particularly focus on women and gender equality. The question to be looked at is ‘What does it mean to be a woman?’Although there has been some progress in the past 30 years, particularly in women’s education and employment equality, there are still many inequalities and also more inconspicuous issues affecting the women of today including domestic violence and rape and sexual abuse and I would like to look further into this.
Linda Kind September 21, 2014 Professor Cynthia Nicolosi Week 4 Reflection Why do Most Humans Seek Beauty? “Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it” (www.brainyquote.com). Why most humans seek beauty is as interesting as it is deep. In order to study why most humans seek beauty, define “beauty.” “Beauty is the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure” (www.dictionaryreference.com). In my thinking, beauty can be found in every single thing that exists by at least someone.
“For millions of Americans held hostage by the pervasive emphasis on being slender, losing weight becomes an obsession that takes over their lives” (Congressional 1101). Eating disorders are not only physically harmful, but they are also a mental illness that many can not over-come. “Psychiatrists and feminists cite numerous social pressures that make women strive for unrealistically svelte, fashion-model figures” (1101). The stigma associated with eating disorders has kept individuals suffering in silence, making funding for research scarce, and created barriers to treatment. Low self esteem is what many girls have now days often caused by undue pressure on how they look.
Body Dysmorphic Disorder The article “Body Dysmorphic Disorder: The Ugly Syndrome of Imagined Ugliness” tells about the difficulties men and women have to go through when dealing with this disorder. Founded in Europe more than 100 years ago, and this particular disorder is known as the syndrome of imagined ugliness. Many people who suffer from Body Dysmorphic Disorder or BDD are convinced that their bodies just look dreadful. Some victims of BDD go through numerous surgical procedures to try to “fix” a flaw they see. Others, however, are terrified to leave their houses, or step out in public because they assume that everyone see’s the hideousness they see.
The meat was also a big issue during this time because it was not packaged properly, which causes bacteria and infections to grow and my people sick. Laws were eventually implemented to stop this and sterilize everything before sale. Four amendments were also put in place because of the citizens during this time pushing to better the United States and bring down corruption in this country. The one that we all know of would be the dreaded income tax laws that we put up with now, but without those our government would not be at the point that it is at today. Women were also granted the right to vote for the presidential office and other laws during this period of time which led to equality.
Meth addiction harms the body in a horrific way, the drug is made up of chemicals that can kill a person also leading to the addiction, and in order to get over the drug it’s a continuous battle the person must want it for themself, and have the strength over their own mind they can’t be weak or they will fail and relapse. In the beginning use of Meth there are not many changes in appearance, but within a couple months a person’s whole appearance can be changed. The body tends to get very thin, and for most people their skin starts getting picked at leaving open wounds. The appearance can change so fast that the person may not even be recognizable. Not only does the appearance change so do the mind.
