Factory farming is a food production method that exploits and abuses animals, in an effort to achieve a continuing increase in output and production. The factory farming industry has raised concern amongst environmentalists, health officials, those concerned with the economy and society, and animal rights activists. The effects of factory farming, however, impact everyone despite their concern, knowledge, or interest. Environmental restoration and protection has become very
Factory farming In this unit I researched about factory farming and learned lots of things. The factory farming is a way of producing meats in factories. In short, the mass production of crops and livestock that is aimed at providing food at lower costs to consumers. They usually rear pigs, cows and chickens to produce meat and eggs. Most of the animals in the factories do not see sun lights at all, and some of them have diseases.
Over the years, the decline of family farms and increase of factory farming has caused harmful effects on human life. Some health problems that effect consumers are respiratory infections, food poisonings, obesity, E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and obesity. A lot of individuals are becoming increasingly aware of the health effects of factory farming. Two solutions that would help decrease the harmful effects of factory farming are making the living and manufacturing conditions of the livestock more humane. Another solution to help decrease the harmful effects of factory farming are feeding the livestock a natural diet with limited use of antibiotics and pesticides.
The documentary also shows how animals are given antibiotics to make them grow much more rapidly. In addition, Food Inc. presents that factory farming does damage to the environment due to the loss of biodiversity. The article “Report Targets Costs Of Factory Farming” from the Washington Post emphasizes how factories have taken a hidden toll on humans’ health. It mentions how factory farming fails to provide humane treatment of animals. The article also talks about how that modern agriculture like factory farming is responsible for about the twenty percent of the nation’s greenhouse gas production.
Cows, Creeks, and Common Sense There has been quite a bit of concern among environmental groups regarding the health and stability of our streams, creeks, and rivers along which cattle graze. Key issues include erosion, sediment, water pollution, bacteria, and damage to the vegetation along the banks of the waterway. While cattle and ranching are important to the health of our economies, so is clean water to the health of our communities. In the world of “the sky is falling” environmental issues and legislative acts, there must be a
Due to the reactivity of acid rain, the cell processes of plants are disrupted, and the cells die or become unable to function properly. Although this greatly damages ecosystems, this environmental issue brings concern to society. Today, with our growing population of more than 7 billion, humans have become hugely dependant on agriculture. As such, acid rain has the potential to damage crops extensively, and thus, damage society as well through shortage of food or even famine. In addition, in countries that depend on the production of agricultural goods like Canada, the effects of acid rain can be tremendous.
Individual ethics, morals, values and influences in an environment may influence what is considered an environmental risk. Environmental research in communities, organizations, interpersonal relationships and cultures and his or her relationship with factors in the environment can be complex and often misunderstood. Ambient variables such as lighting, temperature, sounds, building architects, and air quality all have a role in every community. The biggest most often talked about environmental risk is global warming: global warming occurs when carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere from pollution such as emissions from vehicles, businesses (e.g. chemical companies), anything basically released into the atmosphere can cause effects on the environment.
This effects our environment by taking over our forest, and wetlands. We are building more factories and more people are on the road which causes a problem with population .We see a high levels of sulfur and carbon oxides which effects are air quite (Bergi et al., 2011). The chart below will shows how are environment is effect in some ways by human population. Human Influence on Some Ecosystem Processes | Ecosystem Process | Human Influence | Generation of Soils | Agricultural practices have exposed soil to the weather
The nitrous oxide gases affect the aquatic ecosystem food web chains, which leads from the smallest phytoplankton up to the largest mammal, which is man. The methane and the chlorofluorocarbon on the ground level effects the farm animals and vegetation of the farming community, leading to crops yielding less production, which will affect the economy. The long-term effect of climate change has medical consequences. Some medical conditions are upper respiratory damage, skin cancer, and asthma; such conditions have ended in death of some citizens. The Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Justice are two government agencies that regulate companies that violate the Clean Air Act.
Which Laws have had the Greatest Impact? Since 1970 the environmental protection laws have had a major impact on corporations and the public at large. The three major pieces of legislation that have been passed into law are. The Clean Air Act (CAA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), and the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA). In my paper I will discuss each of these laws and the impact that they have had on the environment and industry.
