Introduction A. Animal Agriculture makes a 40 percent greater contribution to global warming than all transportation in the world combined. B. Environmental effects are a big issue that are becoming increasingly popular as the years progress. With these concerns, more research has recently been conducted to look at the effects that factory farming may have on the environment. C. Factory farming is one of the biggest factors when considering effects on the environment and what kinds of threats they may pose. D. Because factory farming is a fairly recent development that has only become more popular as time has gone by, and continues to grow, the effects that it may have on us in the future are becoming concerns. So, in review, factory farming allows us to produce large amounts of animal products coming primarily from cows, pigs, and chickens cheaply. Factory farming, being the big industry that it is, must have some effects on the environment that need to be addressed. What are the environmental effects of factory farming? A. Two main effects that arise from factory farming are a large contribution to global climate change and pollution by hazardous wastes. B. Climate change is a big deal these days, with everyone, including large businesses, trying to put in an effort to go “green”. 1. Factory farming, by many surveys and experiments, has been considered to be the number one cause of global climate change. 2. Factory farming is responsible for about 18% of greenhouse gases emitted. C. Another large effect on the environment comes from waste that is produced from factory farming. 1. The amount of waste that is produced from animals is more than can conceivably be controlled or disposed of. 2. This large amounts of waste cause pollution of ground and surface water, and also the…show more content…
Although these environmental effects can obviously be issues, most people would probably be wondering what effects they can have on them personally. With that thought, we arrive at the question... IV. How do these environmental effects caused by factory farming effect the human population? A. The pollution or ground water, surface water, and soil effect plants and animals that live in the habitats and also carries E. coli bacteria to areas that can effect humans. B. Pollution of water is a huge issue when it comes to environmental issues that deal with factory farming since water is essential to almost all life. 1. Runoff into streams contaminates the water with animal waste which contains antibiotics and artificial growth hormones that are given to the animals to increase their size and to sustain their health. C. Pollution on soil is another problem that arises from factory farming. 1. Runoff contains high amounts of salts which degrade the soil and can contribute to
