In what ways is young people’s health and wellbeing shaped by diversity and inequality? What Influences young people’s Health today in society? There are many different factors which affect young people’s health and wellbeing, these range from gender, family settings, income, schools and communities, ethics, global systems and a major one nowadays is the media. People will argue that the media can have a negative effect on young people’s health. Looking at some of the positives of the media these are mostly aimed at attending to physical health. All the new games consoles now promote games to encourage physical interaction for examples the wii fit, Xbox connect and dance games. These are an ideal way of young people getting exercise maybe without realizing it. Chef Jamie Oliver has a big impact on young people’s diets, he has created menus for schools which he has tried and tested with young people. He created Healthy menus using the foods that young people liked. Jamie Oliver unlike like other TV Chefs seems to have a good connection with young people and understands what they want, this helps him to promote healthy influences towards young people’s health. Negative influences from the media can come in the form of fashion magazines and models, Girls see an image and think that this is the way you have to be to be popular. Young men can also be affected in this way but can led to many mental health issues as if they dress a certain way or like a certain band they can be classed as being gay. This can cause various problems for young men one being that if they are not gay they strive to show this and can be done by acting out what is seen to be manly norms. For a young man who is gay it can cause a lot of stress and worry about not being accepted, this can have a serious affect on the young mans mental health. What do we mean by wellbeing?
