Not my will, but your will be done?” Sometimes, we are afraid to do this because we have false concept that God’s will for us is not good. You might be thinking, “How about his plan for Jesus? That didn’t seem very good.” No question, it was very difficult for Jesus, to say the least. He faced the full wrath of God against all
(112) How is it that he can make a reference to one little piece of the Bible and not take a look at the rest? Over and over again in The Holy Bible it mentions forgiveness and mercy. If this is true, then how is it that the wrath of God is right above us, ready to strike without giving us another chance? The Almighty God is there to help and comfort us when we do wrong, not to condemn us the very second we mess up and never offer another opportunity to fix everything we possibly can. Edwards’ mind was so clouded with trying to scare these people witless, that he just contradicted himself.
In this same song, “Well, see what you want to see, you should see it all”, refers to Christians only seeing the good in God and only credit him when great things happening without acknowledging the bad things, such as disease and natural disaster, as being His fault. Religion puts blinders on people. In, “Parting of the Sensory”, the lyrics say, “We put all our chips in all the right spots but still lost” , which is another example of people praying and doing everything that the Christianity religion tells them is right but still are plagued with bad things in life. Another song representing this same idea is, “3rd Planet”, which says, “Your heart felt good , it was dripping pitch and made of wood. And your hands and knees felt
Sometimes you can feel so guilty that it takes an emotional toll on you. In the book The Poisonwood Bible by Barbra Kingsolver, guilt is the most outstanding theme. The family continually struggles with overcoming guilt. The father had always dealt with the guilt of being a coward. He was constantly trying to prove to himself, God, and the rest of the world that he was not a coward.
He did not tell the people about his sin like Hester Prynne's was told. This sin made it unable for him to preach and bring a good change into people's lives because he was impure. People looked at him with great trust and saw him as a man of god but he betrayed that trust by giving into his feeling of lust for a short period of time. He is a impure minister of hidden dark secret which is against the rules of god, religion, society, and being a man of faith. The Scarlett Letter delivers a messege into our lives and teaches us an important rule in life.
In the book night, Elie continually struggles with his faith in God. At first, Elie believes very much in god. He studied his religion relentlessly, he freely choses to be mentored and taught of his religion, and of god. However, his faith is questioned by his experience during his time in the concentration camp. However, at the end of the book, even though he has been forever changed by his Holocaust experience, Elie remains with his faith intact.
The master of deceit tempted him, but yet he was an example of obedience by refusing to deviate from what He knew was right. An example of this obedience is when he was facing agony in Gethsemane, when he was enduring much pain, even then he was obedient to the lord by saying, “Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” Luke 22:42 I would like to close with a scripture that President Hinckley used in a talk in 1995. The scripture is Isaiah 1:19-20 and it
Oscar Cruz Jr. Cruz 1 BG Guttierez ENGL 2327 23 February, 2012 Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God In the story Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God in holds a sermon on how your life should be led to with several techniques he tries to grab your attention with his grace and how you would go to heaven. Not everybody believes in god but in my point of view I believe that with the will of the lord everything is possible. Jonathan Edwards throughout the readings tried to scare the readers on how god can do things to people or grasp their life in any part of their time. It shouldn’t be understood in that way because in the bible I reads that god will come for you at the time he is ready. There is no need to be scared to go to heaven because heaven is a better and more peaceful place.
And I was glad that Rabbi Eliahou should continue to look for his beloved son. And, in spite of myself, a prayer rose in my heart, to that God in whom I no longer believed. My God, Lord of the Universe, give me strength never to do what Rabbi Eliahou’s son has done.” From that point on, he made it his duty to take care of his father. So, what is love you ask? Love is many things that you can describe a thousand different ways.
A lot of Christians fear of looking at themselves on the inside because they are afraid they will become very self-absorbed. The Bible states “We all fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). The biggest issue with a fallen human being is denial. Christians are often advised on only focusing on Christ rather than evaluating themselves. Things that should guide people towards repentance could potentially keep their focus looking inside themselves.
