Without anyone to talk to while growing up, Antwone found it very difficult to express his inner thoughts which often led to violence. This can be seen when someone comments on his sexuality and he decides to start a fight instead of just talking it through or simply ignoring it. Antwone Fisher grew up around abusive people that often made poor decisions in their life and because of this Antwone has not been able to distinguish between right and wrong when faced with certain challenges in his life. An example of this in the film can be seen when his best friend is shot before his eyes while holding up a convenience store.
So, I should argue that Jacoby uses too many his own feelings about the dissatisfaction of imprisonment, which makes his claim weak and not credible. For instance, Jacoby states that “the criminal is out of control.” Yes, it might be a strong and persuasive way to get reader’s attention or even agreement, but it is not impersonal, and it is the claim based on his complaint, dissatisfaction and anger. It is inappropriate that reader can only feel his anger and dissatisfaction about the imprisonment. After all, Jacoby thinks “the criminal is out of control” is not a well-known fact. If
After the death of Allie, he dealt with the event by breaking all the windows in the garage “just for the hell of it”. The onset of depression may help explain the display of over sensitivity that he shows at times. He views himself as the “catcher in the rye”, saving children and their innocence from entering the adult world that is full of “phonies”. He doesn’t want “to have any goddamn stupid useless conversations with anyone”, which not only supports that he is a “phony” himself, as he strikes up conversations with various people he meets, but also alienates himself from society. Holden’s loneliness and alienation causes him much pain as he seeks for human contact and love.
It seams that Applegate is very hard to get along with; he even has a temper with the captain,’ Captain, why don’t you shut up?’. Applegate and space have something in common; they both had wounded him, physically and emotionally. It’s always hard to be honest, especially to an old enemy. The author has show the amount of struggle Applegate has to go through in order to apologise to Hollis. He does this by making Applegate repeat ‘guess’ over and over again.
“Perseveration refers to the tendency to persevere in, or stick to, one thought or action” (Berger, 2011, p. 216). At this age if a child’s favorite toy is taken away or their favorite TV show is interrupted they will likely cry uncontrollably so as to stick on the emotion. The case study article indicated that the boy and his classmate had a scuffle on the playground the day before. Based on scientific evidence it is highly probable that the boy stayed stuck in the anger emotion and his immature brain was not able to respond properly. In simple terms, children between the age of 2 and 6 do not
Borderline No one likes to feel alone. Everyone has their good and bad days, but when the feeling of being alienated, empty and angry last for a long period of time, it becomes more serious. This disorder is called borderline personality disorder. Feeling those feelings is very common, especially for a teenager. However, those emotions have been tormenting Holden Caulfield for years.
Salinger shows how Holden’s childhood have shaped his attitude towards others. Through Holden’s characteristics, actions and comments Salinger shows that events in our life can affect the adults we become. Holden tends to be a pessimist teenager that always sees the bad in people, especially in adults. He has the habit to use the word “phony” to describe people, and it seems like he has difficulties having a good social life, but he doesn’t really like to be alone. He has been kicked out of school several times; it seems like he does not care about it; however, he has a decent grade in English class.
Throughout The Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger writes about a confused, aimless teenage boy named Holden Caulfield. Holden’s obsessive habits reoccur frequently throughout the book. These habits include his obsession with change, phonies and that he thinks he is all alone. Mr. Antolini, however, is a character who encourages change in Holden and a decline in isolation.
As a result of Holden’s resistance to grow up and embrace adulthood, he instantly alienates himself from the world and those around him leaving him lonely and vulnerable. In the aftermath of enduring several negative encounters, Holden reaches emotional collapse. He tells the story as a monologue, from a mental facility where he has been recovering from the stress of the experiences he reflects upon. The character of Holden Caulfield is introduced to us as an adolescent who is immature and as a result, ostracised from his peers. The first time that we see Holden show his inability to accept responsibly for his actions is when he leaves his team’s fencing equipment on the subway, and he says “It wasn’t all my fault.” As the captain of the team, Holden should have been taking care of the equipment and using his authority to make sure everything went smoothly.
When we make good choices, we have more professional opportunities to choose from. If we make bad choices, than we have not as many choices to choose from. This can relate to the character Holden Caufield in the book The Catcher in the Rye. In the story, Holden makes some very poor academic choices. Holden says it himself that he has no idea what he wants to become and eventually is kicked out of his school because of these bad choices.
