Improve Your Mental Health Through Exercise General Purpose: To persuade Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience into exercising each day and helping them understand the benefits in establishing a healthy lifestyle. Thesis Statement: Exercising each day can greatly improve your mental health. The effects are extremely beneficial and exercises can be fit into your everyday life. Introduction: Exercises such as yoga and aerobics have been proven to improve mental health. By taking only five minutes out of your day to do some simple stretching or a few yoga poses can greatly improve your life. As college students it may seem hard to find time between studying and participating in various clubs but I will encourage you to find no less than five minutes. There is nothing better for you than stretching once you get out of bed or practicing yoga before you fall asleep everyday. Transition: A simple backstretch or cobra pose before class can only help get your day to a great start. Body: 1. There are many consequences to not stay healthy or exercising. -You are at an increased risk of diseases such as heart disease. -You are also susceptible to obesity, which then in turn can lead to high blood pressure. Transition: Anxiety is common among people but reducing anxiety through physical activity can improve the quality of life. 2. Exercise not only improves your physical health but also your mental health. -There have been many studies that support the claim exercise can reduce depression. -The benefits of exercise greatly outweigh the risks. -Exercise is being studied as a way to treat mental illness. Transition: Recess has been proven to increase academic performance in young children. 3. There are plenty of exercises that are simple enough for anyone to do everyday. -Yoga, aerobics, stretching, and t’ai chi are all simple exercises
