With technology that runs the life’s of millions, and the constant need to obtain anything and everything without a price, Lao-Tzu would hang his head in shock at the life we have grown so quick to know. There are places in the government and in the life of today that Lao-Tzu would think inadequate for living; however, we must look at what in our life meets his guidelines as well. Modern American society is not perfect. The ways of the world have changed since 6th century BC and life has become much more complicated all the while striving to make things simpler. The way technology has driven the last half of a century has changed life astronomically.
Journal #6 Immigration is a bigger deal than thought it was. Watching the film we watched last Tuesday it really showed me a lot about immigration in our country and the problems they get once they get here in our country. It made me really think about how much stuff I got for free for just being born in this country. I feel almost blessed to be a part of this country without feeling like I have to prove my citizenship. I don’t want to take the things I have for granted.
The Colonies by 1763- A New Society? Between the settlement at Jamestown in 1607 and the Treaty of Paris in 1763, the most important change that occurred in the colonies was the extension of British ideals far beyond the practice in England itself. The Americans were different from the expectations of Great Britain due to various dissimilarities between itself and the colonies. As time passed, the lack of major influence of English on the thirteen colonies due to the great distance between them, lead to many changes that helped the colonies get established under their own influence and soon develop their own identities. Every colony was different in a certain way and the people considered themselves as the citizens of their colonies, instead of the mother country.
Some people are just not blessed with athleticism, but those who are blessed with the desire and will to learn and create are the ones of really make a difference in our society. America does need its nerds because without them our society would be one in which football rookie cards would be our common currency. Mr. Fridman argues that the system
The New World The world in the late 1400’s before 1492 was thought to be, by people at that time, at the zenith of modernization; however, a small underestimation of the distance from Europe to Asia by ocean led to a fascinating discovery of an entirely new continent. What Christopher Columbus achieved in 1942 turned the world a 180 degrees. The discovery of the Americas had many effects on the world including intellectual, economic, nutritional, and demographic effects. America and everything in it was unexplained and this created a gap in people’s mind which they thought needed to be filled immediately. Its discovery led to many leading scientists at that time to ponder about things that they have never witnessed before.
Why you ask? Technology changes every day. There’s always something new out there that will determine whether or not this product is purchased or consumers decide to go with a competitor’s product instead. This I know will have a major impact of this type of product but regulatory trends I’m not sure of. The U-phone can help with politicians and legal people doing business from the comfort of their homes but I don’t know if this will last.
Week 3 Checkpoint- Modern Challenges in Immigration I have heard people say that America is “the land of opportunity”. That people come to America from all over the world to earn a better life for themselves and their families. When their country is only offering extremely low paying jobs and poor health care they choose to come to America to earn more money and get better doctors for their children. With the opportunities like that available to them, who wouldn’t want to come to America? There is however one major downfall of trying to do the right thing and becoming a legal resident; the cost of the applications and other fees are outrageous.
Matthew Davis History 1378 Mrs. Frances Joseph (Marcinkiewicz) April 19, 2013 Immigration Changes Immigration has been around since the 18th and 19th centuries and society has had many different social views on that topic alone, but even in today’s society we still deal with immigration. Attempting to have a fresh start can be overwhelming alone, but being discriminated against because your different can also add to that burden as many immigrants experienced. Immigration can be considered a Godsend. It’s a big reason that a lot of industries flourished and became successful. Companies were built on the backs of hard working immigrants who were paid low wages and worked in dangerous environments.
I know that anytime there is change taking place whether it is in our daily lives, our jobs or in the government it is hard to adjust. Not having all the details explained makes it hard to understand and then we all worry about the unknown’s of a new system. Having 32 million Americans uninsured means a lot of change for a lot of people and I am sure they are scared because if they can’t afford health insurance now then how does the President expect them to do it now. I am fortunate to have a good job with health insurance and I am thankful for this, but I also wonder if my corporation will be able to continue to offer this to its employees. In conclusion, there are many unanswered questions about healthcare reform we just have to trust that God he has the right person in charge of the decisions that are being put into place!
The middle class, upper class, and lower class have had a political impact on everyone, especially in recent times. Although the difference between these classes is something that we should not be proud of, but it is something that makes America what it actually is. “The contrast between rich and poor is sharp, and with nearly one-third of the American population living at one extreme or the other, it is difficult to argue that we live in a classless society” (Mantsios 474). With classes being more important now than ever, I believe that one should try to make themselves as successful as they can, because of the way that one carries oneself when they are successful. When one is successful, you know that they are well off and that they created their own
