However as soon as I finished reading it, I understood the purpose of his organization. Rhodes use this agreeing and refuting structure with the intention of enlarging his audience. I mean enlarging his audience because not only people who agree with him will read his editorial, possible people who disagree will do it as well because he does not show his claim until the end, and there it is where he intends to make his opponents doubt about
The memo should be clearly written and organized in direct order, beginning with the objective and then systematically and covering the vital bits of information (Rentz, 2008). Bad spelling, illogical punctuation, awkward wording are not accepted. Such errors reflect on the writer. Therefore, they can reflect on the credibility of the message. An error-filled message strongly suggests the writer’s ignorance.
The obvious downside to the medias role in our political endeavors, is the continuos bias that it portrays, the high cost to run any sort of political or public directive, and that they simply operate under the initiative of profit. The amount of money required to reach citizens with political messages has spiraled upward and now dominates political campaigns. Television formats favor short, emotional appeals over reasoned, thoughtful debate. Typical claims of liberal or conservative bias are most often in the eyes of the beholder, however the levels of managed news, spin and journalistic punditry feed these perceptions of bias in the news. As a result, the deeper biases reflected in sensationalism often leave citizens confused about issues which forces them to deconstruct this alternately managed and frenzied news in order to make sound judgements about their society and government.
The overall point of this article is to let people know that professional athletes back in the day were being underpaid compared to the athletes of today. I think the purpose of this article is to shock people as to how much today's professional athletes are being overpaid and that most of them will be broke sometime after they retire from the sport. The intended audience I think are people in general that read the newspaper everyday either in the paper version or the online version. The only thing that I know about the audience is that they are everyday citizens that read their morning paper everyday and that they understand sports. I know this because I am in that audience as well because I do read the online version of the newspaper everyday and the first section I look at is the sports section.
The Importance of Critical Evaluation in News Media: “With Boston Locked Down, Small Business Steps Up” It is always important to think critically about everything that you learn via news media. In most cases news is created unfairly due to a lack of research, dishonesty, exaggeration and biases. In light of the recent tragedies in Boston I chose to use this article in order to highlight the importance of using critical evaluations of news stories. Many printed sources go through an editorial review process which means that either one person or several people agree that the information is credible before allowing it to be published. I think that Bloomsburg Businessweek did a fair job reporting this news story accurately, with some sufficient depth and breadth.
One should contemplate the audience, review the circumstances, conduct research, compose carefully, and proof read before sending. A business communication maybe informal and provide instructions for the completion of a task. Finally, when the need arise to communicate one should understand the appropriate method to construct the communication. Both communications are necessary. A formal communication, which lacks substance, will not maintain the reader’s attention and a communication written poorly may question the writer’s professional
It is sometimes easier to have general categories rather trying to understand the complexities of the human life. This however goes against the ethos and ethical framework which professional counselling works within. The newspapers often stereotype for example illegal immigrants are made out to be bad people and that they should be sent home. I believe they should be seen as individual’s cases and their stories should be told as if the truth was seen and why they do what they do, it would be hard pushed to want to sent them home. Stereotyping is a very narrow minded
Primarily, it is clearly geared towards its receiving audience, namely well-to-do traditional American families. As a result, it definitely holds a biased position that requires it to appeal to its readers and pander to popular opinions beyond simply informing the general public of newsworthy events regarding the war. The second document also exhibits bias, although of a completely different sort. This underground newspaper promotes radically different, liberal, anti-war ideas and is obviously not geared towards ameliorating its professional image or really pandering to its audience. Its unofficial status makes it less put together while perhaps ensuring greater freedom of information.
Censorship in the society of Fahrenheit 451, mainly in the form of books by banning them, has three major effects on the populations: defined thought, shallow happiness and homogenous society. What the removal of books from mankind does is increases the intellectual contentment of a person, no matter what they’re faced with. Reading books causes the mind to think more critically and most importantly, think for it. If the brain is not thinking for itself, then the job of the group or individual trying to manipulate and control you is already half done. Once it becomes easier to manipulate the person freely, the government in the case of Fahrenheit 451 is capable to engineering a whole society as they please.
This will create a strong opinion in reader’s mind as to how someone can be so self centred and put someone’s life in danger. Overall this article is an effective and sustained attack and advice on people with public speaking positions to follow the old saying- “Think before you speak”. Gerrard’s persuasive techniques like appeal to morality, appeal to logic and figurative language highlight how serious this issue is and what a big mistake the radio station 2Day FM have
