This research will focus on the essentials learned by children and toddlers and how they translate to adulthood and success within their motor skills. From the time we are babies and toddlers we are learning skills to help us progress in our everyday lives and how we intellectually function. Motor skills are an essential component of development for all children. Gallahue puts it this way: “Movement is at the very center of young children’s lives. It is an important facet of all aspects of their development, whether in the motor, cognitive, or affective domains of human behavior. To deny children the opportunity to reap the many benefits of regular, vigorous physical activity is to deny them the opportunity to experience the joy of efficient movement, the health effects of movement, and a lifetime as confident, competent movers” (Henninger). To me the proper learning and education towards essential motor skills in children is essential. It makes for the beginnings and functions of the rest of their lives. To take these away from children causes many problems like obesity, slow reactions, social instability, and many other things. Physical activity is a great way to release energy that comes from strong emotions, stress, and being put up in tiny spaces like a classroom or other things. An example is when a person gets angry for one reason or another they go outside and run, or shoot hoops on their basketball goal to release the feelings of anger and calm down. These activities do a lot more for a person’s well being than arguing or fighting amongst other children, peers, family, or teammates.
