Engineering Research There are times in the history of a civilization when history seems to burst with possibilities. That’s India in the 22nd century. India has done so before in ancient times and aspires to resurge in its “Tryst with Destiny”. History itself is a witness to the fact that any significant improvement that has ever happened to the human race has been allied with a remarkable progress in contemporary sciences and technologies which have revolutionized the lives of the people thereafter, be it the Industrial Revolution or the Internet. This influence of sciences can be gauged by the fact that evolution of time has been described by the discovery of the technologies that took place during the course of ages, viz, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Plastic Age, etc. India is in the time which it has waited for centuries to arrive. Statistics like 72 % of India's population is below the age of 40, 47% of Indians are under the age of 20 and 10% of the world population being an Indian under 25 is a common assessment of India by all countries now. It is this population of young people which constitutes, for India, a potential demographic dividend. There lies a huge potential which needs to be tapped if India is to become a global superpower again. And the foremost driver of all progress in this period shall be technology. India needs to have a population that can develop and innovate technologies of the future and elevate it from the present state of backwardness to the status of being a superpower. All such progress is indeed contingent upon more people pursuing higher education in Technology and related disciplines. Though the government is promoting advanced researches in modern technologies through the medium of grants and establishing institutions of higher education in engineering technologies the expected response has been low and there is acute shortage of
