impReport on the impact of ict on society and business Task 4 Throughout this report I will be assessing the advantages and disadvantages of different types of communication and how it can be used to benefit and the downfall to businesses and the society that we live in. Types of ICT Homework station A homework station is when an employee works at home for a business or organisation using a computer. People who work from home are mainly expected to have a designated workstation where they have all the equipment needed to complete their job to a good standard is present. However Home working is not suited to all types and sectors of work. A person who works in retail cannot work from home because their type of work is mainly store and business workplace based. Currently within the UK 1.3 million people work from home in their Work station and this figure is most possible to increase due to constant improvements made on technology and equipment. The advantages to society are that it’s better for the environment as driving to work increases pollution and carbon emissions that change and damage our climate. In addition, you save money rather than having to pay travel expenses and you don’t have to go through traffic which means you will be less stressed or depressed. Employees with children can spend more time with them which they may not have been able if they were working from the business workplace. For example they would be able to go their child’s school concerts. Furthermore working times may be more flexible as the employee is able to dictate when and where they complete their work they just have to meet the company deadline. This means that the company is able to employ a wide range of people into its work force. For example more disabled people can be employed as they won’t have to make that journey into work.
