Some think it as promoting value consensus and some see otherwise. Functionalists believe that education transmits society's norms and values and therefore promotes value consensus, with the educational and economic system working hand in hand to develop the skills required for the world of work. Emile Durkheim provides the basic framework of the functionalists view on the education system, agreeing with its function of transmitting norms and values. He believed that for society to operate effectively they have to develop a sense of belonging to something, becoming 'social beings' with a loyalty and commitment to society as a whole. The education system creates this effectively by teaching subjects such as history, which enables children to see the link between themselves and wider society.
I have chosen to compare and contrast John Dewey and Nel Noddings views on their educational goals, a social justice curriculum, liberation education, issues of standardized testing and the effects on students and teachers. Dewey’s main educational goal is that education should have two sides: social and psychological. His evaluations are based on how the child interacts with society and how he/she contributes to the good of society. Dewey was the first one to say we need to look at the students to decide how to teach, a modern-day form of ‘differentiation’. He believed that all students should have the opportunity to take part in their own learning.
There are many ways I could serve other with my education, by doing my work for this country, by serving the ones that are less fortunate than I, and to teach the next generation of not just students, but also people that motivation and inspiration are the keys to success and that they should never give up. First, I'd try to do my work in this world by what I am taught in my classroom and applying it to the real world. I would use the morals that my teachers use in the classroom in a world that desperately needs my intelligence, and my sense of service. There is no justice in this world and I would use my education to try and apply it to where it needs to be like: in the world, in the courts, in the prisons, in the fields, in the study and in the classroom, at home and abroad. A second way I'd use my education to serve others is by serving the people that are less fortunate than I am.
Inclusive learning should promote positive behaviour and conduct. A teacher needs to recognise that learner comes with different learning styles and needs. Maslow stated unless certain need are met the learner cannot progress. Malsow ‘s hierarchy of needs theory is: Learners needs have to to be met in order for leaners to be involved and focused on their learning. For individual learning styles to be met, within a good learning sessions a teacher will ensure he/she takes a multi-sensory approach to teaching, this way each learner can work to the best of their ability.
Although the theories of Piaget, Vygotsky, Erikson, and Kohlberg are relatively abstract, we had to find ways to put them into practice in our teaching. I believe this unit also addressed the same TPEs as the second part of Unit one, going from theory to practice and synthesizing our knowledge about students in general to guide our specific teaching practices. The second part of this unit involved learning how socially developed ways of thinking about race can inform teaching. This learning was specifically related to TPE 11, “Social Environment,” in which teacher candidates must create a positive learning environment including fairness, respect, and caring. During Unit 3, the class explored students with exceptional needs, such as students with learning disabilities who have an IEP.
According to the New Rightâs beliefs, the role of education is to instil drive, initiative and enterprise. The New Right believe this will come from competition between schools and colleges, motivating teachers to improve standards and providing parents and students with a choice of schools and colleges. The New Right see them as being similar to functionalists and they believe in the freedom of the individual with less central control. They believe in free market principles within education with a desire to reduce public spending, they also believe that education as an important part in the process of socialisation. They believe that education can help socialise children through religious assemblies, the National Curriculum and citizenship lessons.

I would want to have done the same things once I have my own classroom and I feel fairly passionate for students to understand and develop tolerance towards people who may be different than themselves. I feel that as teachers, we can take action to really mold our students to grow and be better individuals living in this world. I really do believe that issues in the matter of race/ethnicity and culture has to do with educating oneself of these things and practicing the basic matters a person should carry with themselves. The use of journals assisted them tracking their thoughts which led to their behaviors in the classroom. The teachers realized pre and post thoughts were different. Cognitive coaching includes skills that are necessary for our future leaders. When teachers can learn from each other the impact on the student’s is priceless. The best way to learn is to teach.
