Nick does not like New York, which is apparent when he says, “So when the blue smoke of brittle leaves was in the air and the wind blew the laundry stiff on the line I decided to come back home” (176). Gatsby has everything except what he most desires, Daisy. He buys many things just to impress her and prove to her that he really is wealthy. He has a big car, a mansion, and lots of clothes. Nick comments on Gatsby’s car, "...and there in its monstrous length with triumphant hatboxes and supper-boxes and tool-boxes...Sitting down behind many layers of glass in a sort of leather conservatory we started towards town" (68).
We cannot make it rain more over the Great Lakes, but we can conserve more. And about the issue of the vegetation off the shores of hotels, many tourists and residents are complaining because they miss the sandy beaches. I don’t care if they miss it. That is living plants that are good for the ocean to bring nutrients. If these people miss the sandy beaches they should go to another beach.
This color is also in association with Tom: “The front was broken by a line of French windows, glowing now with reflected gold and wide open to the warm windy afternoon, and Tom Buchanan in riding clothes was standing with his legs apart on the front porch.” (6).This also shows a different type of wealth that Tom and Daisy have because of their “old money”, who someone like Gatsby does not have. Jordan is also described with this color many times: "I put my arm around Jordan's golden shoulder and drew her towards me and asked her to dinner" (77). Character association with gold shows the success and the importance along with the want to be in the higher social status. The most well respected social status we see throughout the novel is “old money”. In order to be
A picture perfect beauty. Much like Ansel, nature is therapeutic to me. When I am in a foul mood the best thing for me to do is to go to the river, lake, park or just take a walk, taking in the natural beauty that surrounds me and just breathe. It calms me down and makes me feel better. Although I would not have agreed with this statement ten years ago.
The Great Gatsby The beginning of the first passage starts with Gatsby describing how he looks at Daisy’s house across the water and admires the green light that burns on the end of her dock. He goes on to say “If it wasn’t for the mist we could see your home across the bay.”, now Fitzgerald has used the element of weather all throughout the book in the form of that rain which foreshadows something turbulent or unpleasant is going to occur. This is the first time that he has mentioned the use of fog which could mean various options. What Fitzgerald is symbolizing is that the view of Daisy now has become either clouded or opaque. This is later quoted by Nick saying “... it had occurred to him that the colossal
He had presented this idea to her with a dozen red roses, a box of Godiva Chocolates and airplane tickets. The rooms were booked at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. She accepted the invitation and looked forward to the beach. Long sandy beaches with palm trees, long evenings of romantic settings, a perspective of Hawaii that was so different from her previous experiences. Landing in Los Angeles they quickly deplaned and took a limousine to the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
“I’d be luckier if I didn’t have to sit through this car ride” I retorted before turning up my Walkman and slumping down in my seat to enjoy the “beautiful scenery”. I hated thinking about Prince Edward Island, I hated packing for the Island, and I especially hated driving to the Island. However, I completely despised everything about the Island, everything until I was there. Sun-kissed faces, glass pop bottles, my own room, and an ocean extending further than my ten-year-old eyes could see were all exciting features of this distant place. However, my favorite was the deep red sand that stretched for miles, serving as a barrier between the rumbling seas and dangerous cliffs.
An Explication of Alice Walker “Everyday Use” I will wait for her in the yard that Maggie and I made so clean and wavy yesterday afternoon. A yard like this is more comfortable than most people know. It is not just a yard. It is like an extended living room. When the hard clay is swept clean as a floor and the fine sand around the edge lined with tiny, irregular grooves, anyone can come and sit and look up into the elm tree and wait for the breezes that never come inside the house.
As the taxi creeps along the street Wrigley Field slowly climbs out of the Chicago skyline and a beautiful thing occurs every time this happens…silence. We all slowly drift off in our sentences and take in the glory of our team’s home field. The striking red brick of the building, with the bold green ivy lazily climbing its walls and the “WRIGLEY FIELD, Home of the CHICAGO CUBS” sign screaming out from the front, and all receive the deserved moment of silence and respect they demand from those who walk inside its walls. Smiles slowly tiptoe across our faces, all though I am never sure if it is because of the look of the ballpark or the realization that the Cubby Bear is now within walking distance. As the cabbie gets paid his fee, we scamper across the street with a slight bounce in our step, and turn the corner to find our favorite pre-game bar.
Even though people say that the United States is the best place to live, I would prefer Peru because of the major differences and similarities they have First difference between Peru and the United States is the seasons of the year. Peru is located in the middle of the America continent while the US is at the north, which causes a serious changes of weather that I don’t like. I really like how my hometown, Peru, has most time of the year a hot and fresh summer, which make me able to go the beaches more frequently than I do here. I could spent every weekend at a swimming pool outdoors without worrying about the rain of the coldness. On the other hand, The United States has summer, spring, fall and the worst for me,
