(Pg 130) Another major theme throughout The Alchemist is the feeling of superstition, mystery, or a hidden magic of sorts. This classic theme has been rejuvenated into a new meaning that the reader instantly takes to the heart, and treasures deeply. The Alchemist"tms themes have inspired millions to find their dreams, to follow the omens, and realize their own Personal Legends in a way that few other books have. To many, realizing your dreams and fulfilling your destiny may seem like wishful thinking, but Paulo Coelho makes accomplishing these goals seem so simple and so easy that all the reader has to do is try. The message Coelho conveys, as well as his astounding settings, simple but meaningful writing style, and illustrious storyline enchants and transforms the hearts and minds of its readers.
Breed does not believe that people should advise scientists what to do and what to research. He thinks that they would be more enthusiastic with their projects in their heads. Dr. Hoenikker believed that you can get advised on what to research. Dr. Felix thought in this way: he has the mind and maybe sometimes also the great idea, if he gets advised he can be exposed to many more great ideas. When he gets exposed to these great ideas they can transform into great discoveries or great inventions.
By using many quotes, statistics, and descriptive details Clarke makes the writing complete. It’s as if he gives a little taste of everything, but that miniscule amount is sufficient to feed one’s imagination. Clarke really makes a homerun, his purpose to demonstrate how well Kennedy’s speech was and how/why it was successful, also to demonstrate the genuine president that Kennedy was; in which he clearly accomplishes. Personally never paid much attention to any president’s speech nor wanted to read it, but after reading “Why JFK’s Inaugural Succeeded”, the motivation and very enthusiasm to read Kennedy’s speech was unavoidable. Amazingly an author can really engage his/her audience, but that really takes a lot.
There were many factual claims on both sides throughout the debate, but the Q/A portion really caught my attention. Especially the question that stated, “what, if anything at all would change your mind?” I think that this is where Ken really lost ground. By saying that nothing would ever change his mind about the Christian God being the one true God that created the universe, in my opinion was completely writing out the validity of all science. On the other hand Mr. Nye spouted numerous things that would change his mind instantly. The
“Nerds and Geeks” Popularity, being well known, and skipping school just to be a part of the “crowd” or the cool people. Though not everyone can be a part of that world, and that’s where the “geeks” and “nerds” come in. Their story and why we need them is exclaimed in Leonid Fridman’s piece, “America needs its nerds.” To make his point clear he uses satire, making it straight forward and humorous, also making it enjoyable for the reader. He uses an appealing set of word choice in his writings to keep the reader interested from the beginning to the end. Creating a relationship between the readers through pathos make Fridman piece a better read.
Leadership in Crisis: Ernest Shackleton and the Epic Voyage of the Endurance Case Study 1 The story of Ernest Shackleton is a very interesting and fascinating one, and reading it was a great pleasure. There was a lot to analyze, but I will try to keep things short. Sir Ernest Shackleton might not be an entrepreneur in the narrow meaning of the word, i. e. he did not start a business, and most likely he didn’t even mean to start one. However, we can see that Shackleton manifested a classical “entrepreneurial mindset” in all of its glory: he had seen the opportunity, managed to gather the required resources, and pushed the venture to completion. What Shackleton truly had, was the most important component of the “entrepreneurial mindset”: ability to think creatively, and out of the box.
In ‘If Free Will Doesn’t Exist, Neither Does Water’, Vargas asserts that most people nowadays connect science and free will and use it to prove that free will does not actually exist. I personally believe that these claims are too hasty as the issue requires substantive commitments about disputed philosophical ideas. Aside from that, he also mentions that science has a different way to explain the detail of history of the things that we know without abandoning anything else. In section 1, I will explain the connection between science and our actions. In section 2, I will discuss why if our actions are casually determined, then we don’t have free will.
Personal Essay: To Kill a Mockingbird There were many things that added to my understanding of the novel as a whole, both from the film and documentary. Some of the things I learned include the fact that at first, children were interested in learning but that degraded overtime. Secondly the intro represented an adult world in the eyes of children. Thirdly, through the film and documentary, the novel is about the imperfections in life and how people have learned from that. Through the film and much of the novel, the Finch children and Dill were eager to learn and discover new things which may have been a clear representation of children back then.
For Winston it was exciting that he could finally hear about the reality and more in-depth information of those old days and that he could finally get the answers to the questions he has been waiting for. What upset Winston was that the old man kept on going off topic and would talk about the unimportant facts that didn’t matter to Winston. Winston wanted a clear overview of the way people were treated back then whether they were rich or poor. How did the people have to treat others who were on higher level than them? And what kind
