This is an interview with Malcolm Knowles who was born in 1931. He taught at the University of Chicago for many years and after a while he felt that he needed a change and began to start an adult education programme at the University of Boston. It was there at the University of Boston where he made his development of the theory of Andragogy, by using his observations of the course which was about adult education. Interviewer: What have been your main influences when developing your theory on Andragogy? Knowles: One I began this theory I did not have many influences as not many people had looked into andragogy. However my main influence would have been Alexander Kapp who used it to look at Plato’s education theory further. Although the term ‘Andragogy’ did hold some currency and made valid points it was unfortunately disputed by many other theorists and then became an unused term.
