The Nature of Religion Kathy Legare rel/134 May 10 2012 University of Phoenix The Nature of Religion Describe the common elements of religion. An important element in a religion is to have a Supreme Being or person to worship. Where this supreme being(s) guides and teach people how to live. That does not help or hinder the control of the nature of mankind. (Johnson, 2009) There is an unwritten code that religions have that tells the believer how to live, how to bring more in to the religion and what do if the person does not want to believe.
This is then reinforced by Source 2, written by Edward Lee, the Archbishop of York, which says that ‘all ecclesiastical persons should preach the sincere Word of God’. These two sources reference genuine worry concerning the possible danger of the religious system and combine together to suggest that this reason was a legitimate one for the visitations. When talking about reliability, it must be noticed that the first source was written by a Royal Commissioner. These were the people sent by Cromwell to perform the visitations; therefore they would have not spoken negatively of the situation. It can be interpreted that because this is a letter from Layton to Cromwell, the messaged could very well have contained the absolute and confidential truth; by this I mean any underlying truths that were kept from the public eye could have been mentioned in this letter because it was between Cromwell and his Commissioner.
Such roles did not include being a bishop or priest but as a deaconess and widow. The role of “deaconess did not develop until the third century” (Torjesen 1988) and only in the East. “The office of widow” (Torjesen 1988) was never a real office; it was “only a way of life sanctioned by the church for those dependent on her benevolence.” (Torjesen 1988) According to Didascalia XV Jesus excluded women from church offices. According to the church order Didache, the offices were for “apostle, prophet, and teacher.” (Torjesen 1988) Although the Didache does not specifically say woman or man, other church orders do “restrict women to certain roles.” (Torjesen 1988) In the Apostolic Tradition is where it is first found that restrictions were placed on women. Widows were not ordained because they do not “exercise a Eucharistic ministry.” (Torjesen 1988) Sub deacons, readers, and virgins were also excluded from being ordained.
As he states in the Political Treatise, It appears from this that the person of kings is sacred, and to move against them is sacrilege. God causes them to be anointed by the prophets with a sacred unction, as He caused the pontiffs and His altars to be anointed. Significantly stating that a King’s should be cherished and if someone would defy a challenge against him, they
Rebecca didn’t get any of the information in the book from any website. This book wasn’t written until after the death of Henrietta. She actually took time to cooperate with Henrietta’s family, friends, lawyers, doctors, ethicists and also many journalists who’ve written about the Lacks family. The main person that Rebecca has taken information from is Henrietta’s daughter, Deborah Lacks personal journals. She didn’t just take information from human figures but from archival photos, documents, and scientific and historical research.
Elements of Religious Traditions Paper Howard Swiggett REL/133 September 11, 2012 Elements of Religious Traditions Paper Religion is the human enterprise by which a sacred cosmos is established. (Peter Berger’s 1967). Another meaning is “A religion is a unified system of beliefs and practices relative to sacred things that is to say, things set apart and forbidden (Durkheim1960). Religion is a way of life founded upon the apprehension of sacredness in existence. (Julian Huxley biologist).
Not only are Ms. Shousha and Kathy Kudler related, but Kathy is the only person associated with KFF that has any dealings with Anne. It is a store policy that all “slip and fall” injuries be reported to Kathy. Other than those incidents it is up to the discretion of managers to determine what should be reported. All reports go to Kathy and when she feels it necessary she discusses issues with her attorney, Anne. Another issue with this professional relationship is that Kathy and Anne have informal discussions outside of the office, usually during a family gathering about professional issues.
Minoan Religion Describe the main features of religion in Minoan society. Since archeology aimed at the Minoans has produced only ruins and remains of their culture, people studying them can only guess at what their religious practices might have been. The world for the Minoans seems immersed with the divine; all objects in the world seem to have been charged with religious meaning. The Minoans particularly worshipped goddesses, trees, pillars, and animals. The priesthood appear to have been almost entirely if not totally female, although there is little evidence that the palace kings had some religious functions as well.
In most cases women do not publicly discuss their experience of having an abortion. Why? Mostly to comply with already set social norms, and protect themselves from any judgment. Biggs gathered the data she used
“Mysticism is the conscious awareness of an ultimate reality, divinity, spiritual truth, or got through direct experience, intuition, or insight” (Wikipedia). It usually centers on a practice that is intended to nurture these experiences or awareness, it is meant to unite the diving and sacred and is an activity with a definite goal. Although mysticism is philosophically and religiously neutral it is often used in the context of strong religious motivation and is therefore often tied into religion (blessings). In Taoism salvation is attained through mysticism and the experience of enlightenment. There are many practices and beliefs in Taoism that are mystical such as the origin of the religion, theories of connection with nature, use of yin yang symbol, meditation, martial arts and magic.
