“I wandered lonely as a cloud” and “Want to boost your brain? Take a tip from Mother Nature?” Wordsworth’s poem “I wandered lonely as a cloud” has a fairly simple form which consists of four six-line stanzas, each of which follow an ‘ababcc’ rhyme scheme and are written in iambic tetrameter, giving the poem a subtle back-and-forth motion that recalls swaying daffodils. ‘Beside the Lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.’ Throughout the poem Wordsworth tries to portray that nature’s beauty uplifts the human spirit and this theme is perfectly represented by the iambic tetrameter lines as this format fits the movement of a human body mimicking the pace of a heartbeat. This theme of nature having an affect on human feelings, is further emphasized by the personification of the daffodils, by giving them a human attribute which is dancing, it suggests their happiness which reflects onto his happiness. The prepositions locate him on the earth "beside the lake" and "beneath the trees” this shows that although he describes the setting to being very surreal and enchanting, it is not a made up place. Also they show that he feels surrounded, this juxtaposes with his loneliness which is described in the first two lines. Similarly the article, “Want to boost your brain? Take a tip from Mother Nature” also uses a straightforward and clear format. ‘Backpackers who spent four days in the wilderness without access to electronic devices scored 50 per cent better on a creativity test at the end of the trip, according to researchers.’ Laurance uses one sentence for one paragraph, this high impact rhetorical devise is very effective for pointing out the critical idea’s of the article as it keeps the reader mentally focused on the content by forcing them to pause and linger over that single sentence.
